Probably because it needs to be used in the hacked card reader/enclosure. The drive is probably not usable by itself in the CF slot of the Axim or any other device.
This microdrive will NOT work in a Axim or any PDA for that matter. Do a search on this site and you will see others that have gotten it only to find out the Axim can not read it. The only microdrives that Seagate says will work with a X50V (X51V to I have a 8gb that works fine) are its 4gb and 8gb drives.

You don't know what your talking about, don't post misinformation. I have a Seagate ST1 5 GB Microdrive I pulled from my Rio Carbon and it works PERFECTLY. YOu have no idea wether or not this drive will work. It will all depend on if its locked in IDE mode or not. If it says something like FW 3.04 on the back it wont work. If it says no mention of FW version. It WILL work. But going by the price I would guess it probably won't work. You could always ask them to take a picture of the back of the drive and send it to you.

I was quoting others at this site that got stuck with this drive. In addition I quoted the Seagate web site that does state which drives they say will work with the X50V and it was not this drive. They said their 4gb and 8gb micro drives will work. The Seagate site that mentions this 5gb drive does not mention any use for any PDAs at all.
just received this drive today, seller was fantastic about shipping, ordered monday, got it today.
No FW markings Anywhere. Worked great in the little USB Reader and hooked up to my computer. Will try it in my axim once that arrives. If it works like it should, 50 bucks for a 5GB MD and a USB 2.0 reader is an amazing deal.
I just rec'd mine today from that seller and it did not work in my X50v. It does have the dreaded "FW: 3.04" on the label, so I'm not surprised. Seems this seller has some drives w/ and some w/o this firmware designation. It was (only) $50, so I figured it was worth a shot. Now I have a nice little 5GB external drive I can use to move files back and forth from work.
I just contacted the seller and he said that he would ship your choice of MD's- the one with 3.04 FW or the one without a firmware listed. I just ordered one without the firmware and will see how it goes.
I can confirm mine is working, shows up as 4759.98 MB of usable memory, and I've already watched a few movies off of it. Good to go here, though I got lucky and received a non-FW version without specifically requesting it.
CJ4: I just ordered one too. Apparently, the seller has split it into two separate sales and charging more for the one without the FW3.04 markings. Still a great deal though. Here's hoping it works!

Funny ... this press release PDF says it will work with PDAs.
When you buy from her you must specify before you bid that you want the card without the FW markings. Not doing so doesn't guarntee you a "working" card.
