Incompatible AXIM x50v with BELKIN SNAP-ON THUMB

Could not have spent more time, or have been more PO then I am right now.

I have been reading through Aximsite since my 1st Axim for over a year now. I am currently on my 3rd. Besides a little problem now and then my Axim has been great and your website has proven a tool because of my lack of knowledge.

Here is my extreme dilemma. Hours over the phone with Belkin and Dell, to no resolve.

I own an AXIM x50v it is running on Rom ver A05
it is running Windows Mobile 2003 SECOND EDITION

I purchased Belkin Snap-on thumb board pt#F8D0502 and when I am installing the software I get this error message after hitting NEXT on install wizard.

Error mssge INVALID WINDOWS CE Setup File
Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file.

I have Hard Rebooted AXIM deleted all info
Tried to loaded rom A02 back,
reloaded A05
Deleted and reinstalled Active sync 3.7 and 3.8
Tried on different computer.

Belkin says product incompatible with 2003 Second Addition has anyone had any trouble, or can anyone lend any help?

Thanks

I didn't think that there was a Belkin snap-on keyboard for the x50 series.

They do...I have this one Belkin SnapnType and it works well with my x50v on WM2003SE.

Bob, you mentioned that Belkin said it was not compatible with WM2003SE and that you are running WM2003SE. Couldn't that be the problem? Can you post a link to your keyboard?

OK, I just took a look at your link, and it is the same as the one I attached. This is where my problem comes in. There are other people with my setup, why does it not work. I feel it was a blowoff from Belkin.

Well, something is strange. Same keyboard, same device. Have you tried copying the cab file for the driver to your device to see if that works?

This is my problem. It does NOT make sence. I moved the cab file over and clicked on it. The error message follows.

SETUP FAILED
The file "\Built-in Storage\thumbboard.MS.PocketPC.C is not a valid Windows CE Setup File.

Thanks for any help

Well, it could be telling you the truth and your cab file is corrupted. Have you tried downloading a new copy?

I looked at Dell & Belkin, and to no avail, there is no downloadable drivers. I guess it will have to wait till Monday. If by chance anyone has a link, or can email it to me I would REALLY appreciate it.
Looking forward to getting this working.

I just got one this past week. Mine works just fine with 2003se and WM5.

I was wondering on how I can used the subjective word that pops up while I am typing with out having to stop and click on it with my styles?

Also how do you access the control keys if I want to copy and paste?

I called Belkins and to asked them last friday and they told me that they didn't make a snapon keyboard for the axim x50.

To select words from the popup list of suggested words, hold the orange symbols button down and then use the orange arrows keys to move up and down the list. When you have highlighted the word to select, release the symbols button and press the enter key. It will be slow at first but once you get used to the key pattern, it goes quickly.

I haven't figured out a way to copy and paste without using the stylus.

One thing I should note that I just discovered - the fake cursor program can replace alot of stylus use while using the snap on keyboard when mapped to a hard button. The orange arrow keys will move the cursor around and the enter key will register as a tap.

You can find the cursor info here

I'm having difficulty getting the Fake Cursor program to work with the Belkin thumboard. Fake Cursor works fine with the D-pad, but it won't move when using the orange cursor arrow keys on the Belkin. Any ideas on why this isn't working?

TMann

Edit: Never mind...it seems to be working now.

I too have just received this new thumb board. I am also getting that "Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file" message.

If someone could help me out with that cab file too, I would be eternally greatful. Well, maybe not eternally, but at least as long as I own my Axim.

Bump.
