"Hard" Case vs "Soft" Case
I just ordered an X51v and I assume that I need a case.

Do "Hard" Cases or "Soft" Cases protect the x51v better?

I did some searches and did not really find any posts comparing the two. I was looking at the SENACASES, but they look rather expensive...any cheaper alternatives that will do the job.

Price isn’t a huge deal, I just want something practical that will protect the PDA and not compromise usability.

Thanks

Go with the innopocket Magnum (magnesium case) it is excellent and has protected my Axim flawlessly. It also has a double hinged cover so you can just flip it out of the way making it very easy to hold.

If you are planning on getting extended battery, Axim w/ extended battery won't fit in Innopocket Magnum case.
But if you don't intend to get extended battery, then this case will do the job very well!

lol, ever get the feeling that your question is still not being answered? :P

from my limited experience and just my general knowledge about things, i would say that hard cases do a much better job at protecting against more damaging damage, if that makes sense. you see, if you are referring to normal wear and tear, scratches, etc.. the soft case will probably as good of a job, or even better (due to the fact that some metal cases will even scratch your pda themselves, actually i've only heard of 1 doing this and i can't remember what it was). but if you drop your axim on a corner or something, a hard case is going to absorb the pressure much better than a soft case would. a soft case would absorb some things, but the same amount of pressure would be there, causing the screen to break in many cases.

this also depends on the hard case though, if it has for example the corners exposed, it will do an even worse job at protecting against drops that hit the corners than soft cases.

as for your added part about accessability, the innopocket magnum case mentioned earlier allows full access to all ports (as far as i know). but many hard cases don't offer this.

Get the case you like the most and enjoy your Axim.

If I could have only one choice I'd take the Innopocket Magnum but I have a leather case too! The metal one is too "techie" for me when I'm say, out to dinner. Just because I have a metal case doesn't mean I can drop my X51v and expect no damage though.

I loved my Rhino skin leather case with my X5 and my Stingray case for my X50 has been excellent. Both the X5 and the X50 have been dropped and thrown into the laptop bag or the truck seat numerous times and I have had no complaints about them and they look good. So the hardcase may be the ultimate protection I think the leather is pretty darn good and dows not look as geeky hanging off of the Belt.
