will this cable option work?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i am looking to buy a pda auto scantool like the one sold by autoenginuity. for those unfamiliar with the product, it is a device that you hook up to your automobiles OBDII sensor and you can obtain diagnostic information about your vehicle on your pda (like the tools mechanics use and charge $100 each time your check engine light comes on). anyways, they make a usb version, serial verson, and bluetooth. the bluetooth is $130 so that is out. the serial version i would need a special cable/adapter to hook to my pda. i was wondering if i could get the USB version and hook it up to a boxwave minisync (i was looking to get one anyways) via a female to female usb adapter (a couple of dollars on ebay)...do you think the axim would read the input from the usb properly and fast enough?

thanks for your comments. i would also appreciate any suggestions.

Sorry, but you need the serial version. I believe that what you really need cable-wise is called a "null modem cable." If you can find one of those to fit your pda it'd probably be cheaper than buying it from the OBD website, but those are getting harder to find with every new PDA model that comes out since no one really uses them.

I cannot make any comment as we do not know anything about OBDII but I find this on their web site on cables to use:

Dell Axim X50/X51:
http://www.pc-mobile.net/ax50.htm See part number PX50GP. Note: this adapter must be powered using a 12V car power adapter, available separately. A F-F null modem cable is required to connect to an MQ200. The MQGPS RS-232 plugs in directly. These cables are also available through the MaxQData custom order pages.

USB version is out of the question as it is for PC only. You cannot use it on a PPC, never mind how you can connect it.
