Bluetooth Headset for X51v
Is there anything I should know before I invest in one of these devices? Also, any reccomendations from those of you who already have one would be great.

Well you should know that if you are using WM5 then bluetooth headsets will not work. Search the main forum there's plenty of threads if you need more info.

I've been using these - http://tinyurl.com/9jke9. They come with a BT dongle that you can use with any device (when M'soft gives us the proper BT stack you shouldn't need the dongle) and they haven't broken.

First get over the fact that they are not supported by WM5 or the X51V. Then I've heard, from other device users, that they don't work the well. Drop outs, low volume, skips with wifi connections, heavy, etc. It would be interesting to get some comments on how well they actually work, when they actually work.

Well I have to disagree .... I have BlueTakes BT430Tx Dongle and BT450Rx Mini heaphones and I've VERY pleased. They are comfortable and sound very good. The only "beef" I have is the range isn't that great, about 10feet moving around and 15-20 standing still. But I don't use my x51v for music while being active anyhow, it's either working and listening to music or sitting still watching a movie on it.

Is it possible to mix and match the dongle and headset? I'd like to get the BT450Rx headset, looks sweet, but until the patch (if!) comes out I'd rather get a cheaper dongle seeing as it'll just be discarded.

It looks like the dongle is for iPod only?

Don't think so .... the dongel can be used anywhere after the elusive BT stack fix. On your stereo fo music or watching a movie when others are sleeping and you need headphones, other devices like MP3 players, PSP's, Game Boys, Laptops, etc .....

Correct, not iPod specific. It does have a small connector that you wouldn't use unless you have an iPod, but there is a short (6") cable that allows you to plug the dongle into anything with a headphone jack. I use it with my x50v, laptop, mp3 players, etc. When M'soft gives us the proper BT stack I won't need the dongle with the x50v.

how about a microphone headset such as those which people use with their bt enabled cell phones? Any comments on them, and would I be able to use it for recording?

Can this setup be used with VoIP on the x51v? I want to setup Skype and use my Axim as a VoIP phone, as well as for just listening to music etc.

The posts in this thread are misleading. It is not possible to add headset or hands free functionality to the x51v using a dongle. All you have to plug it into is a phono socket which will give you BT stereo transmission only.

No its not possible to use the microphone via a 3.5mm phono socket. Its a one way socket, it transmits sound, it doesn't receive anything.

I think the guys here are just talking about using BT headphones to listen to music wirelessly. I too am looking for a headset to use so that I can use my Axim as a portable VoIP phone (wherever WIFI is available obviously). You will have to wait for the upgrade to the BT stack.

BTW I'm talking about WM5 only, you will be able to use a headset if if you are using WM2003.

the BlueTake headphones do have a microphone to double as a headset but as stated not using the dongle via 3.5headphone jack. Once x51v has the BT stack then the iPhones should be more versitile. Be aware, BlueTake has two version of their dongles.
