Question Recommendations for a case?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a case for my x50v, and not knowing quite where to start my search, want to ask you guys for suggestions. I need the following features in the case:
  1. The case must be able to hold the Axim with either the standard 1100 mAh battery or the 2200 mAh extended battery. This is because sometimes I have one battery in and sometimes the other. :)
  2. The case must have a sturdy (detachable?) belt clip (I normally carry the Axim in one of the side pockets of my backpack, but sometimes I don't carry my backpack with me when I need the Axim. A belt-clip for the case will assure that I always have it with me).
  3. One of the following:
    • The case must have a small form factor and easily detach from my belt if I'm going to leave the PDA in it all the time. I don't want to have a case the makes using the PDA difficult or that doubles its size (besides, a huge case would just look huge on my belt, since I'm so thin). Since some cases make writing difficult because of how/where they open, it's worth noting that I'm left-handed. Then, if I'm going to leave the Axim in it, I should be able to sync, too...
    • The other option is a case which stays on my belt, but from which the Axim can easily be removed (ie, along the lines of the belt holder than came with the x30 handhelds - you leave the case on your belt and slip the Axim in and out of it).
  4. preference: I think I would prefer the case to be made out of metal. Metal is stronger and appeals to me more than plastic or leather does, though I would prefer plastic over leather. (What are the pro and cons of metal/plastic/leather?)

I think those are all of the requirements for the handheld. The reason I'm even looking for a belt case in the first place is because I need to have my Axim at all times with me for logging of diabetes-related stuff.

If I think of anything else I need in a case, I'll post. If lots of other similar posts are already on the boards, sorry I didn't search first. Post the links and I'll look at them. :)

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Phillip

PS: Just saw the sticky with the list of all x50v-compatible cases with reviews. Will check it out...

Anyone? Is it better to post in the thread about cases if I want an answer?

I recommend the extended Sena case w/clip. I think it's the only one that will satisfy all your requirements. If you have the 1100 battery in then it will not be as snug, but some people use a piece of foam there to hold it snug. Otherwise that's the only case I can think of that will sync without having to remove it, has a clip, and can fit both batteries. Further, it flips back, not to the side, so it will accomodate both rightys and leftys. Check it out at Cases.com. Let me know what you think of it Phendric.

The only thing is it's leather, not aluminum. If you get the aluminum type case, you'll have to get an extended case. But an extended case won't hold the Ax if it has the 1100 battery as far as I know. Besides, once you feel the nice leather you'll love it.

Also, Grentz made a thread that lists all available cases for the x50 series. So if this doesn't work for you search for that thread. However, I'm quite sure my choice is the best match b/c I've thought about these same issues.

Good luck on your decision.

Gracias por la recommendacion, Stevenator :) .

I'll check it out.

Phillip

PS - I checked the list you mentioned briefly...I need to look at it more carefully, but when I did, I realized a metal case probably is not feasible. I also wish there were more reviews of cases.

phendric, I too have the Sena with the beltclip and I love it. After over a year, it still looks great and the fit is still as snug as it was in the beginning. I have tried metal cases before, and although they do provide more protection than soft cases, I found them to be heavy (I know, I'm weak!) and slip out of your hands easily. You will also not find a hard case that can sync in the cradle.
