I don't like windshield mounts. I think they just look tacky and don't work well with the large cab-forward windshield on my Sienna. What I have done is the following and I couldn't be happier:
1. Attached a
Pro-fit LowBoy Adhesive mountto a convenient spot on my dash with adhesive. Pro-fit also makes vehicle-specific mounts that work well in many cars but the on for the Sienna was too far to the passenger side so I used the adhesive LoBoy mount to place it exactly where I wanted it right above and to the right of my steering wheel.
2. Bought a
Seidio G4850 mounting cradle with integrated GPS. This baby is awesome and I get a GPS fix almost instantly when putting the Axim into the car cradle. Since the GPS is always on I don't have to worry about charging or losing a bluetooth GPS and since it is integrated into the mount I don't lose a CF card slot.
3. Used a Seidio hardwire kit to permanently wire the cradle to my car's 12 volt power so that I don't have any power cables hanging around the dash or using up the cigarette lighter plug which is now freed up for my cell phone charger.
4. Bought a casette tape adapter (one of those things you put into your casette deck with a wire leading out that plugs into a headphone jack). This lets me play MP3s from the Axim into the car stereo. I do this all the time for podcasts while driving. And if I am running mapopolis and mortplayer at the same time I get mapopolis breaking in with voice commands for the turns and then immediately going back to the music.
