Major Microdrive Problems
So I format my Seagate ST1 in either my x50v (WM5) or my card reader as FAT32. I copy my music to it with my card reader, and it's fine.
A little while later (a day, a couple days, i don't really know), I can't access any of the files on my microdrive anymore. I look in the directory and all I see is a WMDRM folder and an unaccessable 3 byte file (it's called "t" this time).
chkdsk -> "bad links in lost chain at cluster xxxxxxxxxx corrected." (a whole list of those)
-> "lost chain cross-linked at cluster xxxxxxxxxx. orphan truncated"
i convert lost chain to files. and then chkdsk f: /f
-> the 3 byte file is gone, but i still can't access my prior music.
I then format and the cycle restarts
What the heck is going on!??? I've been through this cycle countless times already, and the microdrive works fine by itself in the card reader without any problems...(that's why i posted it in this forum, because i think the x50v is doing something to it, i just don't know what)
Please help.

try formatting and if that doesnt work, see if warranty is up. Seagate usually provides a one year warranty, which may or may not be up because the ST1 has been around a while.

the st1 i have was bought off ebay and ripped out of a carbon. it's the 5gb, and it has no firmware, so it works with the cf2 interface instead of ata only. i don't have warranty on it.
i've reformatted literally dozens of times...tried different cluster sizes of fat32, with and without backup fat...problem still happens after a while

man, that really sucks... i have no idea what to suggest other than to try a new CF2 card reader. someone reported problems with the CF card reader that came with that microdrive, maybe there's something to it?
i thought i had posted this already, so sorry if i'm repeating myself, heh

No, Ive had them both and they both work. But the 8GB works even with firmware. Anyway, listen. You might still have a warranty on it. Call up seagate and give them your P/N or S/N and it might not be up. If they ask for a name, I dont know what you should tell them :) Tell them you work for Rio :)
