Best BT headphones for Axim?
I got a x51v with a seagate 8gb microdrive.
So I'm thinking of using it as my mp3 player.
I am wondering if BT headphones are any good for audio?
My current head phones are a Koss Porta Pro

Any recommendations on a Bluetooth replacement?

With my x50v I use the motorola bt820 and the seagate 8gb drive. But i don't think the x51v has the right bluetooth stacks to run HQ Bluetooth audio.

First your Pocket Pc has no support for Bluetooth headsets or headphones. Secondly they don't sound very good anyways. I bought a pair for my x50v and went back to my wired Sony headphones in short time. They also cut out alot, especially when walking briskly or running. Also they use up extra battery power, because you have to keep Bluetooth on and use lots of extra processing power to encode the audio on the fly for the headphones.

There a nice dream, but the reality is they suck sh*t. If you must have wireless headphones, the best option is to use an external bluetooth transceiver and connect it to your 3.5 mm headphone jack. Its an extra thing to carry, but sound quality is a little better and it wont kill your Axim's battery.

Lofty is mostly right. Right now the X51 doesn't support the current profile. There are many people working on getting the widcomm profile to work on the X51, so you might get lucky, who knows....

Now, I use my BT headphones with my laptop, and they work great. They don't cut out unless you get more than 12'-15' away. Then they sound a bit staticy. Granted it does use some more power, but not tooo much at all. And really its not that much extra processing power. The BT chip itself does alot of it. Now the quality is definatley different from wired headphones. It is somewhat tinny at times, but IMHO it is perfectley acceptable. I like it.

I just bought a pair of these http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A0620845&c=ca&l=en&cs=CADHS 1&category_id=2999&page=external when Dell had them on sale for half price. They come with a Bluetooth audio transmitter, so you can plug them into anything that has a headphone plug on them. This also has the bonus of by-passing the Bluetooth stack issue on the Axims. You can also use them off a standard bluetooth device that has the right stack, but my laptop doesn't currently have a bluetooth card in it, so I'd need to use a dongle anyway. Sound is good quality, although I'm not an audio-phile by any means. Range is good, at least 20 feet. People in the office look at me funny when I walk over to the printer still wearing my headphones. Battery life hasn't been an issue at all; I plug them in at night, and they last me all day.

All in all, I'm a happy camper with them. I wish they were cheaper, but I got a good price on them, I think. Don't tell my wife, though. I'll never go back to corded phones. It's just too convenient not having cords to either pull your headphones off your desk, or strangle you when you get up and forget about them.

Yes, Dell WILL replace your X50v with an X51v, if you do it right...

Yeah, Unfourtunately WM5 doesn't support Bluetooth headphones or Headsets, so nothing bluetooth will work for listening to audio from the Axim X51. But cneufeld's solution sounds like it will work.!

I'm not going to profess to be an expert with different BT headphones, but I just bought a set today. I chose the Plantronics Pulsar 590A. Simply put I am quite impressed. I'm using them with the external BT transmitter and my X51v w/8GB microdrive. The sound quality is close to that of the Koss Sport-a-Pro, one model below the Koss Port-a-Pro. I have used both Koss headsets for years, so I know how they sound (which is quite good for such inexpensive units).

The Pulsar 590A is fairly lightweight, has a 10 hr (!!) listen time, a built-in microphone (12 hr talk time!!) to pair with your cell phone, an in-flight cable allowing you to convert them to a very good sounding wired set for airplane travel, a travel case, a USB charging cable and the adapter and charging base for home. Admittedly they aren't inexpensive, but they aren't as costly as a nice set of Sennheiser 650 cans either! I got mine after lots of research and hope to eventually use them with a working A2DP profile on the X51v. I paid $150 CAD after taxes.

Yeah with an external transceiver they do sound ok. But trust me, connected directly to the Pocket PC the quality is terrible and it skips alot.
