Wireless Connectivity
I am getting a new Dell Axim x51v (hopefully it will arrive today) and I've been reading and reading and reading and . . . anyway, I read the excellent wi-fi article that others have been referring to, but I still have a question! I suppose I should wait until I get the product, but I'm too impatient.

Is the Axim set up to connect to the internet automatically or am I going to have to buy some additional hardware? My initial plan was to buy a 2GB Sandisk Ultra SD card and perhaps a Mugen battery . . . but I didn't think I would need to buy anything else for wireless connectivity (at free hotspots, of which there are many around my town).

However, when reading different wi-fi tutorials, I've read that I'll need to buy a CF card that's also a wi-fi card. That confuses me. Is that true or is the Axim ready to rock out of the package?

In addition, I've seen quite a few posts that say that the Axim will not work with bluetooth headsets - because of WM5. Is this also true? Is there a way to get a bluetooth headset to work with the x51v?

Thanks for listening to my ramble.

Eric

I believe the X51V has the 802.11 wi-fi built in. So, NO, you would not need to add a wireless card. Can' help you with the Bluetooth

The x51v has wifi built in. But you'll need a wireless router or wifi card for your PC. It has to talk to something.

At the moment the X51V will detect BT headsets, but doesn't have the appropriate driver/BT-profile to allow them to work (The same goes for all BT audio devices). Hopefully, Dell/Microsoft/whoever will eventually sort this out... just don't hold your breath

A Bluetooth adapter plugged into the headset slot is the only way to do it now, until or if Microsoft has headsets supported in the OS.

I have the Axim X50v and its Bluetooth/Wifi ready, but I am not good at real techy stuff just yet, so I cheated and bought " Wifi Companion Software" from Socket at Fry's store in town, its great...I'd love to take my Axim apart someday and see how it really works, somehow, i'm just dying to find out how this little puppy works, little green men running around or what?? its fun, MP3 , Video's, record those people who don't think that they are snoring....te hee..the only bummer part is that the Xtra long life battery is heavy on my small hands, it gets tiresome, so will make something to carry it around with me, like on a sling thing....well i am rambling....thanks guys
