Boxwave Acessory Questions
Hi folks,

I have already bought some Boxwave accessories, which have been great (screen protector and wall wart).

I would like opinions on the following though:

1. Battery adapter for minisync http://www.boxwave.com/products/batt...pter/index.htm

Does this really extend the battery for the Axim a lot? I use mine a lot when flying, and the battery always dies. Will this extend as much as the purported 5 times?

Also can I use this with the directsync cable? (http://www.boxwave.com/products/comp...sb-2-0_581.htm) They only mention the minisync

2. Mobile Mounting Kit http://www.boxwave.com/products/mobi...gkit/index.htm

Presumably this is big enough to take the Axim? Any problems with it?

3. Car Charger (High Current Output) http://www.boxwave.com/products/carc...ar-charger.htm

I already have two car adapters with USB outlets (one from Boxwave for a Rio Karma) but both don't give the Axim enough power (flicking backlight).

Presumably this one doesn't suffer from power issues?

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I have just purchased the car charger from Boxwave. I used it with the minisync and was not impressed. I stiil don't think it outputs enough current to properly charge my x51v. I tried to charge my Ax from a depleted battery in the car; however, I did not charge at all. I am aware that the lower the battery juice is, the more current it takes to charge it.
I tried charging it with the battery half full, and I really didn't charge that well either. I've read somewhere here that the battery has to be greater than 80% full for the car charger to properly charge the battery.
I will probably return it, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Also, I tried using the Boxwave AC adapter with the regular Dell travel sync cable, but it didn't seem to work. I can only get it to charge with the minisync. If I am doing something wrong...somebody please let me know.

I hope this helps a little.

1- I looked into this kind of emergency power source, but found carrying a extra battery a cheaper and easier solution for me. A 2200mah battery can be found on ebay for $15 or so. Because of it's added bulk (adds ~ 1/4" to the Ax thickness), I use the standard 1100mah battery for day to day and carry the larger battery in my briefcase as a backup. There are plans floating around this forum on how to build one of those chargers for under $10.

2- Doesn't look too different from the Arkon mounts. It seems a bit expensive to me, but if you're unsure of which attachment will work best, this may be a good choice. I've successfully used Arkon vent mounts for years.

3- I use the high current charger/minisync combo all the time with no flickering back light issue. Depending on the car power plug, If the Ax's battery is depleted beyond 20%-40%, you might not be able to use and charge at the same time.

After a long delay I finally got all of these.

1. The battery box seems fine. It definitely works, but I haven't tried it in anger yet, so don't have much of an idea about how well it works re. the Axim's standard battery time.

2. This is fine. Works reasonably well and fits the Axim.

3. This seems to better than my previous Boxwave adapter. At least I haven't experienced the screen flickering. I'll keep an eye on it though...
