Aximsitex50icon WiFi companion

OK, so I am ordering my AXIM (finally) from Dell. With my accessories I am gonna be gettin a leather case, 2 yr warranty, 2 yr complete protection, and a spare SD memory card. My questions are: Is the Wifi Companion Software required for using the Wifi connection, is it helpful, hard to use, is it worth buying, is there better software, any input I could get before I actually order it would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your help,
Michael

I had the same question, but bought it anyway. Its not nessasary. It is helpful, kind of neat. I would order it later online. They should have a trial version online (most software does).

you say you are going to buy a spare SD card. If you do, don't you DARE buy it from Dell. Go to Buy.com. Don't worry, the prices might seem unrealstic, but I've been a happy customer of theirs for a couple years. I recently ordered a 1GB SD card for $20 after rebate and a 2GB CF card for $50 after rebate, with free shipping.

And another thing. CompleteCare is absolutely unneccesary. Any damage that may be caused by you dropping it can easily be blamed on something else. The tech people may appear to take it seriously, but they really don't. But, if the X51 is anything like the X5, the chance of ANY damage from dropping it is negligible.

And a last thing, on the WiFi Companion. Never heard of it, and I really don't think there is much point to it, from what I HAVE heard of it. The WM2003 Wi-fi connection manager, although sparse, is very easy to use and unobtrusive. I assume the WM5 connection manager is, if anything, only more refined.

So, basically its not really worth the extra money to purchase it. Alright, Is there better software that fulfills the same purpose?

My Axim connects to my wireless router with no problems straight out of the box... I didn't need any additional software..

I agree. I find it very useful. It has a nice graphical interface. The Dell built in is very bland. The Dell built in works fine. However, I am happy with Wifi Companion.

You can get a trial from Socket's site (who makes it):

:approve: I have been using the wi-fi companion software that came with my x51v . It has taken a few hours to wriggle the worms out of the wifi setup, I think that the default software pre-installed and the companion where butting heads with each other. Kept saying the wifi wep no# was wrong. But now it works flawlessly everytime I turn the wifi on and works well with Thunderhawk.

Thats been my experience thus far...hope it helped a little....The companion is better than the default wifi software. At least I think so...everytime I write something in these forums the know it alls, jump my a--.
