Car mount for Axim X50v
I have just purchased a Car Mount for Axim PDA - this is a suction mount which attaches to my windshield. I've found the following two issue - anyone had similiar issues? any solutions? ....

--- the suction of the mount slowly looses it suction and falls off after couple of
hours - if i leave it on my windshield the next day i'll find it on the floor

--- while i'm driving with the pda in the mount - it shakes a lot, it okay to just
look at the map, but difficult if you want to read the road names or other
info - how do i stop it wobbling/shaking. it kind of annoys me.

Thanks

Regards

Sajid

Solsie, I have an x50v as well and I keep reading your posts about Proclip and you have me very interested as well. But I have a wired gps and need a solution that incorporates the wired gps with it's rj11 jack (that looks like a telephone cord jack). Do you know what I'd get from Proclip?

Sajid, do you have a bluetooth gps or a wired gps? Which gps software do you have? Which suction car mount do you currently have? I have a Seidio suction car mount and the suction lasts for several days before falling down.

Hi Solsi,

Thanks for you reply. I did knew about ProClip. I've a 2004 Honda CR-V truck. The proclip for my truck fits close to air-vent on the right side of the driver, but mine is a automatic drive truck. if i attach my proclip and the mount there, then my auto gear shifter coming out the stearing wheel obstructs the view to my PDA. I like to fix it to the right air-vent, but proclip does not have an adapter to fit on the right side air-vent of my car.

Another point is i've to buy the proclip ~$30 + the PDA mount for my X50v ~$30 so i've so shell out $60 + tax for the mount.

see this

http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpa...d=&p_year=2004

alternatively i go for this and move it slightly further to the right and get a clear view of the PDA

http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpa...d=&p_year=2004

Anybody has a Honda CRV 2002 and above and using a proclip, please tell me how you use it.

I've bluetooth wireless gps.

thanks

Sajid

Just make sure your window is super clean. Clean it with alcohol before fitting the pad. I had my X5 falling down every night, until I cleaned the glass. Now it's been mounted for 2 years, and I don't think I could get it off if I tried...
I had the shaking as well, but now I've fixed it so that the mount is resting on the top of the dash. That give a lot of stability.

Another cheap option would be to try a vent mount. You didn't mention the brand of holder you have, but odds are there's a vent mount available for a few $$$. Be aware that if your car has round vents, you may not be able to use a vent mount. I really like the Proclip if you're intending to leave the mount up 100% of the time. The problem for me is that their device holder permanently attaches to the clip and I prefer to remove and stow the holder when not in use. If you graft a removable mount like the Arkon to the clip, it ends up sticking way out from the dash.

This one does RJ11!

I use an ARKON powered mount for my AXIM X51V (but it will take any AXIM).

I have used an ARKON mount for my old iPaq 3660 for several years - and it never fell off. The new AXIM one has been in use for 6 months and hasn't fallen off yet. Do make sure the windscreen is clean and dry before you attach the suction cup. The actual holder slides off the mount to prevent it being on display / getting in the sun etc. It is provided with a cable to attach to the AXIM to provide power - it also has power out for a BT GPS unit and a USB connection to provide power to a 'phone etc.

Yes - with the AXIM I get a bit of vibration - but I removed most of it by arranging the mounting position to have the power cable from the mount to the AXIM to rest on the dashboard. This eliminated 90% of the vibration and allows TomTom maps etc to be viewed without any issues.

My older ARKON mount had a longer metal arm from the screen mount and this could be bent to rest on the dashboard - no vibration at all - even with the heavier iPaq. Unfortunately the mounting of the new PDA holder to the arm is different - and I am loathe to cut up the old mount to attach the new PDA carrier - but I may get around to it one day!
