i recently ordered a hitachi 3k4 4GB microdrive for my replacement x50 thats now an x50v and it arrived and when i put it in to be used i get this popup that says "Unrecognized Card: please enter the driver name for this card according to the card manufacturers documentation" i called CDW and told them about this and they looked up wit hitachi that the 3k6 supports the axim x50(v) but they havent tested the 3k4 with the axim, so whats gonna happen now is that they are going to exchange the 3k4 with a 3k6, i guess this is what happens when u dont look into things more or jus get the cheapest one u see. so yea if u buy a microdrive make sure its not 3k4

the exchanged unit arrived today and i still get the same results as before, and i found a post about this in an earlier thread and it appears that the white label drives do not work in ppcs and cdw only has those models, oh well time for another RMA, i will jus sell my 1GB SD card and buy a 1GB Cf Card and a 4GB SD card that i seen on newegg the other day.
Damn. Good thing I read this. I have a 3K6 bookmarked on my eBay page -- guess I'll need to look for something else. And frankly I'd rather get a Hitachi -- any idea which ones do work?
well, not sure about hitachi's, but i have a seagate 5gb microdrive that works perfectly. (notice! there's a version labeled fw 3.04 and a version with no firmware label on it, the firmware labeled version does NOT work, but the version without the firmware labeled on it DOES work)
i have heard success stories with the seagate 8gb microdrives as well. the key is, some microdrives are designed for embedded use only, and these are the ones which will sometimes work and sometimes not work in your ppc. if it's labeled as retail and not OEM, however, it should work regardless of size/brand

The 3k6 models do work; I have one in my PDA that hasn't failed me yet. It has a blue label, it looks like the problem lies with the 3k4 models and those with white labels. Good luck.

Seagate 8gb microdrive for $140. Lots of people here have used it, it works. Seagate and Hitachi are pretty much identical quality-wise, and the tests I have seen indicate the Seagate drives are a tad quicker.

wow 8gb sounds good but too bad im only going to spend $200 on my axim , i found this seagate 4gb microdrive that is only $70 but im wonderin if it will work because it says its a photo harddrive if it does work it will be alot easier that what i was orignalliy goin to do which was gettin a 4gb sd card , a 1gb cf card and sellin my 1gb sd card for however much i paid for the cf card

So the OEM blue labels work then? I've seen a few of the 4 gig Hitachi OEM models on eBay, but no 8 gigs. I'm looking at a Segate ST1 8 gig at the moment. I've heard some horror stories about Segate's lower capacity microdrives though so I'm a little hesitant.
