AXIM 51V GPS Speaker Options
I was wondering what some of you have done/found that amplifies the speaker of the X51 while operating in your car. It is not very load and at times can hardly be heard with road noise, etc.

Does anyone make an amplified mount that is decent? What other options are there.

Thanks,
Glen

yes, SEIDIO units come with it. You could ply your Axim into the your radio if you wish (I have used the Cassate Tape method).

But volume wise... My X51v can be heard just fine from across the car (Suburban) using Mapopolis. So most time we don't hook it up to speaker, unless we want to control the sound more easily.

My Axim functions as a multi-alarm clock. When it is upstairs in my house and I am downstairs listening to TV with 3 kids running around... I can still hear it ring.

I bought a $20 pair of portable battery powered stereo speakers by Sony. I only use one of them (the one with the on/off switch and volume control). I then make a bracket (cut an old plastic cup and glued a flat to on it, painted black), using velcro so it sit's in my cup holder very nicely that's on the right side of my driver seat. I ran the cable (an extention) to my pda mount, also using a stereo to mono adaptor (since I'm using only one speaker). The whole thing works great and was pretty cheap. I can easily reach down and adjust the volume.

I am quite happy with my Arkon D520 which has a front-mounted speaker. Of course, whether you need more undistorted volume depends on how loud it gets in your car, whether you crank up your car sound system up loud. I haven't tried to hook up the Arkon through my MP3 FM transmitter, partly because I don't want a tangle of wires going to and from 2 electrical outlets.

Thats a clever solution. I would have suggested the cassette adaptor into the radio.
I find my GPS is quite satisfactory with the radio at "normal" volume but it all reminds me of the car sticker that says "IF IT'S TOO LOUD YOU'RE TOO OLD".

With the external speaker solution I can still listen to radio, CD or iPod all while having independant volume for my GPS instructions.

It works really well, I'll try and post a pic (Can I upload here or do I need to have it on a web server somewhere?)
