Keyboard gripes to Pocketop and Targus

Im getting ready to buy a think outside keyboard and mouse combo for my x51v.
When I bought my x51v I figured I had this area (keyborads) covered because I have two infared keyboards. The first one I bought was the pocketop keyboard. It was great on my x5. The only thing that bugged me was that I had to use the stand with the stupid mirror due to the fact my x5 didnt have screen rotation software. I tried some but didnt like it too much. I could even live with the curved top row keys. So enter the Targus UNIVERSAL keyboard. I loved that infared arm that rotated to the top and that fact that I could have the pda "docked" with the keyboard as one vs. a seperate stand. Other than the fact it didnt have arrow buttons it was great.

Well the upgrade bug bit me and I wanted a new axim (should I apologize?). I bought the x51v with high hopes. No 3rd party screen rotation problems, WM 5.0, crazy fast processor why should I have not been excited?? Well now to why Im griping. Pocketop driver for WM 5.0..... NOPE! Targus driver for WM 5.0...... NOPE! (Im not trying that hack I saw on aximsite, the drivers are not my responsibility. It is the OEM's) In fact on a side note I think folks are having problems getting drivers from pocketop for any pda. Unless, of course, you want to PAY for it.

So, I would like to say thank you, Pocketop and Targus. Your "UNIVERSAL" solution really wasnt universal solution at all. Now I have to spend more money to buy another keyboard. Just to let you know I will never by any of your products, EVER. I can even live w/o you mighty Targus. Every accessory I buy for my laptop will not have your name on it. If you are going to promote your products with phrases like, "The last keyboard you will ever need!!!!" make sure you can back it up. People upgrade their devices. Technology gets better everyday. Something you shouldve thought about before telling me I would never need another keyboard.

I'm not really a whiner ( I swear). I am just peeved that I have two expensive paper weights now.

Sincerely,
Cherryhead

Have you called Targus Customer Service? They have a reputation to protect, especially since they advertised the keyboard in that fashion.

Point them to your post, it can't hurt.

Great idea Max Dude, you should try both sites and make sure they haven't come up with wm5 drivers yet. I can't believe they don't have them.

Either website doesnt have an updated driver. In fact you have to pay for support on the pocketop site.

Thanks for the advice though. I was afraid my post would make it sound like I was Captian Negative, which Im not.

I dont expect a "universal" keyboard to be good for 20 years and 10 pda's but I am disapointed that my keyboards only lasted for one device.

What about an old-fashioned phone call?

I would see if I could get a Customer Service rep on the line, and make your complaints known to them. Ask who the President of the company is, who the Chairman of the board is, and how you can contact them. Point out that (in the US anyway) there are truth in advertising laws, and that if they have EVER sent an ad for one of these units throught the US mail service, then Postal Fraud laws may be relevant.

OK, now for some hard reality - All of the above is just to get you to someone willing to go the extra distance to take care of your issue. You should always be polite, firm, call each person by name, and ask them specifically what they can do for you. Work the above questions and comments into the conversation WITHOUT any tone of threat in your voice. They will soon understand that they cannot dismiss you without it causing an issue for them personally.

This may seem like it is too much trouble, and that is a decision you have to make, but even if you do this every time you have a problem with a company, and you only get what you want 50% of the time, that is still 50% more than if you did not try, and you get the satisfaction of having "won" a few times.
