Why can't I get a power cable that works
I have read loads on the power supply issue with Axims and I am still confused. I know I need a 5.4v supply but I just cannot find one.

Why does Dell sell the cradle but not the power supply. All I want is a powered cradle at work and home.

I have an x51v.

I recently bought a unbranded cradle off ebay sold as x51v, with power supply. Obviously it works, and syncs but the supply is 5v so it doesn't charge, and not sure it even charges when turned off.

I live in the UK, and the only effective charging solution i have is a USA usb adaptor, plugged into a UK socket converter.

But I cannot sync and charge at same time at home.

DOes ANYONE know where I can get a 5.4v power supply / lead that I can plug into the cradle I bought, or even the Dell one, and I'll buy a Dell branded cradle.

I just don't understand why Dell sells the cradle at £39 wihout supply, as it is essentially a stand without it.

Thanks

I had an x50v that I bought with the belkin 3 in 1 Travel charger from Dell. I recently had my x50v upgraded to x51v. The charger works with the new unit and if the batter doesn't get too low, it will charge and sync at the same time. I mostly sync with BT, so I don't know all the issues with USB.

I have travelled in the UK with this set up and a plug adapter. It worked just fine.

Boxwave also has a new unit that specifically notes the x51v. These are both relatively expensive, but they do work. I bought a general retractable usb charging cable and it doesn't work at all. Good luck.

Go get one of those universal power supplies with voltage switchs and a hand full of connectors. They are sold everywhere.

NO it won't. Normal line variation and impedances will take in more variances than that.

I can understand that axim's are expensive and you don't want to fry it. But that just aint gonna happen with a small wall wort.

Here is the link to the adapter on the US page. I have seen the exact same part on ebay for about 7 dollars. The adapter is the same for the x5 and x50/x51. I have both and they are identical down to the part number.

You can charge from +5VDC. It's the Amps that your charger can supply is the factor here. You need a bare minimum of 850mA to charge/run, more with a low battery or any high-drain function on.

Look on ebay or even elsewhere for the AC/DC power adapter of any PDA with similar voltage/current output. My old Cassiopeia's unit also works with my Axim.

The Dell website is badly designed and hard to find small items such as the power adapter. But since I noticed your in the UK I figured I would try and went to dell.co.uk and had no luck finding it.

I did find one that will do the job on expansys though. Check this out. Thats an original Dell power adapter.

Also if you want to get one from Dell give them a call the parts department in the US can ship you almost anything and I would think the same is true overseas. In the US there is a package of cradle with power adapter (thats really a fun item to find on the website) I would think that they offer something similar in the UK it would not hurt to ask if you call them.

Thank you for all your time and help.

I have now found the answer on ebay for a fraction of the price on expansys and Dell.
