Help - new battery wont work?

Hi Everyone,

This a great site, for a newbie like me and I am learning so much already. However I have recently purchased a new extended battery (Li-on 3.7V 2300mAh) on ebay for my X51v, it worked for a while, after charging and then the power light flashes green and just does not power up!

The original battery works very well! (maybe I ought to have gone to Dell to buy the battery!!?):rolling:

Keep up the great site - I also managed to upgrade to A12 with no worries, thanks to you all and the slow start-up seems really great now.

Thanks a lot
Terry

Terry, welcome to the "family". Try charging just the battery in the cradle without your PDA in it. Did the battery fully discharge? The cradle my do the trick. If not a replacement may be in order.

Thanks 'Tuscanstan' I did charge the battery in the craddle - but I did not discharge it fully.
Maybe the battery does need replacing - funny how it worked for a while. Well thanks for your input
and best wishes
Terry :)

Thanks anyway I've tried everything - so today I ordered the extended life battery from Dell, a lot more expensive, but sometimes bargains are NOT what they seem!

cheers
Terry

Hey,

I had the same problem with non-OEM batteries.

Turns out after almost giving up, it was the battery cover that wasn't fully latching for some reason and even if it seemed to be latched, the reason the PDA didn't turn on was because the door probably wasn't closed properly. I tried a different battery cover and it worked! So it was just a bad cheapo battery cover.

But I DID have a 1000mAH battery off eBay and it won't even charge, so it's probably a dud. But ya, if you have a different battery cover for the extended, try it and see if it works, or just order a different type of battery off of eBay that is extended but looks to be a different manufacturer and use their cover instead, that's what I did and I'm happy ;)

Thanks very much, Josh.

Thats very helpful and think you're onto somehting here as I can remember a message saying that the battery cover was removed and the system is going into sleep - which completely slipped my mind. I will try out the battery with the new cover from Dell, when it arrives in a few days time - I'll let you know. :)

An cheering news this morning - which is not whats happening in London at the moment with the Authorities telling us on the news that there is the likelihood of an 'immanent terrorist attack'! - But thanks Josh,
Best Wishes
terry
