Ethernet Card Adapter
Hi there.
Does aybody ever used an ethernet CF adapter card on the Dell Axim X51v??
I mean: connecting an internet point (cable or ADSL) directily to the CF card slot??

Imagine this: your hotel room does NOT have WiFi coverage but there is a internet outlet on the room waiting to be connected to your PPC...

I have googled a litle and find this:
http://www.socketcom.com/product/EA2917-722.asp

but i have never heard something from someone relly using it.

Does it work?
How fast is it?
What drives are necessary?
The drives provided along with the adapter are ok an sufficient?

I cant wait to let my laptop home....

If you check compatibility on the Socket site, this product should be compatible with your X51v. Your other alternative would be to use a portable wireless router.

Have an LP-E CF Ethernet card from Socket for mine. Use it somewhat
works great, also makes the AX 51v a network tester with the right software.
Prefer WIFI but this is a backup.

You can buy a portable wifi access point for less than the ethernet adapter. I just make my own wifi with a D-Link unit that I picked up on eBay for $29.

Your mileage may vary...

I have an older version of the Socket 10/100 CF card and it also works well with the X51v using the latest drivers from Socket. My perception is that data transfer is faster than WiFi but I haven't done any accurate testing to know how much better.

Thanks for your answers.
One question remined to me:
I think that as hooper13 sad, a wifi portable router would do well for me, can somebody tell me the name (or model or brand)of such thing, so I can look for it on e-bay??
Correct me if I am wrong: I have a access point - an outlet on the wall - on my hotel room that I used to plug my laptop and go on line. Now, with the wifi portable router, i will conect the router to the internet outlet and it will generate a wifi signal for me.
That's it????

Is There necessary same special configuration on the PDA besides the driver??

Travel Wireless Routers.

I've used an Asus (although the earlier 802.11b version) and others here have said the Linksys and D-Link have worked for them.

I agree, the travel router is the way to go. Not only solves the connection problem but adds the freedom from the cable as well. Check out the article below, does a quick round-up of the top travel routers.
