Are there "bad" (dead) Belkin IR keyboards?
The Belkin IR keyboard seems like a simple device, but mine won't work. Do some of them "go bad"? Here's what I've done....

===================================

1) Soft Reset AXIM 51v

2) Downloaded WM 2005 driver for Belkin IR keyboard

3) Program opened up on PDA fine.

4) Pressed Enable and the screen reads: STATUS ON

5) DISABLED ALL INCOMING IR BEAMS

6) DISABLED SOFTWARE KEYBOARD

BATTERY IS GOOD AND INSTALLED CORRECTLY.

I GET NOTHING FROM THE TEST.

I tap the AXIM soft keyboard icon and the soft keyboard appears. I hit a letter on the soft keyboard and it appears in the "TEST" Box for the Wireless PDA keyboard. The "Close Software Keyboard" remains marked as "YES" and when I pull up the built in software keyboard and tap a letter, the letter again appears in the Test Box for the Belkin program.

I had TENGO THUMB trial installed but the registration period ran out and I think that I successfully removed it from the PDA.

I removed the Belkin driver, soft reset the PDA, reinstalled the Belkin 2005 driver.

still get nothing.

It should not have to take hours and hours to install a simple little program. Am I doing something really wrong? Is the keyboard just a "bad one?" Purchased from a seller on Ebay who has thousands and thousands of postive reviews....

Is there something simple I'm missing?

Belkin's "help" page is totally useless.........

Can ANYONE confirm that Belkin IR Keyboard works with 51V??
I read the great review of the Belkin keyboard, ordered one from a reliable source on ebay and can't get it to work. The Belkin techs can't figure it out either.

MAYBE THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT DOES NOT WORK WITH THE AXIM 51 V ?

Is there even ONE PERSON out there who has EVER gotten the Belkin Infrared Wireless Keyboard to work with an AXIM 51 V?

If so how? If I get NO responses, I'll assume that it is NOT compatible, but even one "YES" will tell me that I have some other problem.

Please let me know.....

Thanks

I have a IR keyboard and haven't gotten it to work either. I bought it off of a fellow aximsiter and they said it worked well with the Axim x51v. He sold it because he needed money and never used it.

I didn't spend much time with it. But I never got it working.

I use it all the time, I even wrote a review on it. You need to go to belkin.com and download the WM5 drivers. If you will look into my review(in my sig) you will find the link.

Found it for you:

to W3iner and anyone else--AXIM 51 or AXIM 51 V ??
It was your excellent review that convinced me to buy the keyboard. But your review seems to indicate that you used an AXIM 51............or maybe that is a misprint.

I am using an AXIM 51V. I have ONLY loaded the WM5 drivers onto the AXIM...I get the screen with "Enable/Disable" and all that. But nothing appears when I type. The Belkin REP could not figure it out either.

Do we know that it works with the AXIM 51 V ??

Thanks,

b99

Yes it works fine on X51v. I bought for my X5 which my gf has, but it works fine on X51v. You have to make sure that you have IR enabled
I cannot test it further, because she persuaded me to give it to her and since I use so many different language keyboards, I found it was only good for English. I preferred the foldable X5 keyboard anyway on the X5
I found the IrDA to not be as good on the X51v, so that may be the main problem
I ended up parting with mine in favour of a bluetooth keyboard
I have to pair it each time I use it, but it is much better

It is hard to set up if you are not fimilar with it. Are the mirror and keyboard lined up? Have you tried just putting the Axim on the table and trying to see if the keyboard will send the signals? Are there battires in the keyboard(put fresh ones in)?

Because it was only $25...

I got the IR because it was only $25 and didn't want to "experiment" with a bluetooth keyboard that cost about $85, in case I didn't use it much. It's also somewhat lighter, I think, but if I can't get it working, I'll go to bluetooth

I don't know of any differences between an X51 and an X51v that would impact an IR keybaord

Yeah I agree the prices are a bit 'up there' but they generally work well too..and it sounds like you might get one either way? So buying an IR and THEN a BT keyboard wouldn't that cost more though both in $ and time?

Yes, buying both would cost more than just buying the Bluetooth. Now, do you think that I PLANNED on having to buy both? Buying one for $25, which does seem to work for lots of folks, is less than the $85.....if I can't get the Belkin to work with my Axim, I can give it to my daughter for her PDA...........so I'm not too stressedout ab out any of this....just would like to get something working.......
