So, i've skimmed a couple of threads about the invisibleSHIELD, and how it feels sticky when running the stylus over it.
My question is as follows:
for those who have the invisibleSHIELD, how difficult is it to write with calligrapher? I just bought one, and I'm still deciding whether or not to use it and replace my Boxwave Anti-Glare (which is quite scratched up)
Depends on the stylus and device, I'd say - I've had several InvisibleShields.
On my DS lite, there's almost no drag at all - it feels great, and doesn't catch at the material of the DS's stylus.
On an hx2000, it was horrible enough at the lower half to make it impossible to use the stylus.
With my Axim x51v's shield, it's a little (lot) stickier than the Boxwave is, which was practically like teflon-coated rink ice, but isn't as bad as it was with the hx2000. It's tacky enough to make some areas 'catch', however - but this can be fixed by changing stylii or by getting the AppleSauce polish off the Shieldzone site which has been reported to smooth the texture of the shield to make it almost as nice as a normal screen. I suspect they're using the ApplePolish Glaze (not the polish component, but the smoothing/buffing one) for this.
Writeshields are expensive though =/ Maybe it's worth getting the Writeshield anti-glare...if it doesn't get scratched. Does it? (my boxwave is literally covered with scratches...yes, i like its consistency matte feel, but every once in a while a little piece of something gets stuck on my stylus and it scratches as i write, leaving the mark on the protector)
Technically, I didn't buy an invisibleSHIELD but I bought a DIY sheet from a site that sells the exact same 3M stuff that invisibleSHIELD uses... http://www.bestskinsever.com
I dunno, i'm hoping i'll be able to cut it perfectly and it'll do well for my X51v. Hopefully it won't be too sticky; if it is i'll go buy a writeshield i guess.
Writeshield here for my x51v, looks great after a year. I bought a Boxwave for my nano and it sucks, the edges don't hold. I use a iSkin for the Nano so you don't see the edges but the WriteShiled is worth the money. I used invisable shield on my daughters iPod mini and it is great, also on wifes Blackberry. When I get my Razor in a month, invisbleshield for that too.
The Writeshields are worth the money. They do not scratch. I have all my family and friends using them. The ones that go cheap the first time around usually come around and end up spending on the Writeshield. Silly, when you consider that buyingthe Writeshield first would have just been cheaper.

tiger has it right - you could spend $5-10 on some cheap protectors, and either end up buying the $13 WriteShield ANYWAYS... or damage the screen using the cheap stuff, because it didn't protect the way it should've, and then spend more sending it back/repairing it/etc.
For me, the money's worth it, and I'm getting some value out of my InvisibleShield - as noted the tackiness seems to vary somewhat.. but if you're cutting your own, I'd just save myself the trouble and go buy a WriteShield, Boxwave, or the real thing instead - you're not going to save any money in the end if you have a badly placed screen that's unusable. You'd be better off using that to coat the BACK of the unit, then get a real screen protector for the front.
Another vote for WriteShield. :approve: I just changed to the 2nd one in the pack after over a year on the original. The only reason I changed it was the small area of the screen that you typically write on was starting to catch my stylus on some of the scratches. Besides that area, the rest of the protector was virtually scratch free. I would assume that the anti-glare ones (I have the C2) are just as durable.
As I reported in another post last week… I bought invisible shield, installed it and then removed it just because its surface caused a noticeable drag when using my stylus. The increase in the Calligrapher’s recognition errors is not acceptable to me.
I received NuShield a few days later. Nushield does not use any adhesive; it is installed by inserting it into the seam between the outer-frame of the screen and the touchscreen. Because my Axim has been used for months, the dust that has been accumulated inside the seam gradually came out and trapped beneath the Nushield (partly because the Nushield, without any adhesive, is still slightly moveable, sweeping the dust out from the seam). I removed the shield to clean it up and put it back, but the dust came out in a second round. I also have found Nushield slightly reduce the sensitivity of the touchscreen.
Then I read this post and learned from Haesslich who suggested adding some polishing material on the invisibleshield to make it work. Inspired, I sprayed some silicon-based lubricant on the invisibleshield, then wiped the surface clean with a cloth before putting it back on my Axim. The stylus drag totally disappeared! I have waited for two more days before I conclude that this simple solution can make invisibleshield and Calligrapher coexist.
Hmmm, I may just try this method. What specific lubricant did you use? I don't know if I have any silicon-based around, but I have some telfon lubricant stuff...you think that would do?
The stuff that I used should be available in any hardware store. I bought it at Ace Hardware store for a few dollars. It is normally found next to other lubricants such as WD-40. This is the exact stuff that I used: http://www.crcindustries.com/hd/cont...x?PN=05074&S=Y
I am not familiar with telfon. I think the important thing is that it will not have any chemical reaction with the invisibleshield.
Teflon MIGHT be safe, but I don't think it'd 'stick' to the InvisibleShield all that well.. although the texture is about right for that - Teflon tends to come off smooth or plastic surfaces, IIRC - while the InvisibleShield isn't smooth, it's definitely plastic. Silicone, on the other hand, is completely inert when applied to plastics and rubbers, which makes it a safer alternative.
I'd also suggest the ApplePolish, since it's known to work.
So i sprayed some Teflon lubricant on my 'invisibleshield' screen protector, and it feels just as smooth as a boxwave crystal is...now all i have to do is actually find a free 24 hour slot where i don't use my axim so i can install without the X51v powered =P
Well, tonight I just sprayed some silicone lubricant onto a paper towel after cleaning the InvisibleShield (it's still on my Axim's screen) and then wiped it on and in. After a half-hour, it's still horribly slick - as Lat noted, it's just like a Boxwave Crystal, and doesn't catch my stylus at all. It hasn't affected the anti-glare properties of the shield either, as far as I can tell.
We'll see how it does in two or three days, to see if it keeps this same 'polish' that it's got right now. Stylus sensitivity seems about the same so far, though.
