Creative, but I doubt it.

I wouldn't go as far as an outright "no" though.

So you want to surf the net from your X51 by plugging it into the cradle and plugging the cradle into the cable modem?

I'm really dubious but it'd be an interesting experiment. The X51 doesn't have USB hosting so I'm 99% sure it won't work. But if you have all the gear give it a shot and let us know

the pins on the sync cable or cradle allow data to go to and fro eh,,, a connector allows the same packets of 8 bits so why wouldnt it work... the x51 has modem capa. and that works the same way...

No, it's WAY more complex than that.

Communication over Ethernet alone has a whole myriad of protocols that need to be in unison to allow it to happen. Never mind the added complexity of the USB conversion.

It's more than just pins and 8 bits

The fact that activesync sits in the middle of the cradle->usb->ethernet connection also makes it seem that this isn't likely to work.

That's because there is a lot of stuff that is happening under the covers, activesync has been written to allow this.

NO!
the usb cable is used ONLY for serial connection
if you want to connect directly, you need to buy a wifi AP, then the Axim connects to the AP, then connect to cable modem
but be aware of that, the cable internet company remembers your device (not cable modem) MAC address, then this is not good to change device connects to cable modem
the best solution is using wireless router, use the WAN port to connect to cable modem, then the wireless router re-distribute the connection to your Axim through wifi
