Sufficient Power?
ok so this would provide enough power to charge and use navigation on my axim simultaneously in car?

5.4v output and 1amp seems to fit the charging requirements, unless i missed something.

If your battery is really low, you may have to let it charge a few minutes on "standby" (off). Also, keep in mind that, the bigger the battery, the bigger the drain while charging.
This charger should work, but keep in mind that it could be a good idea to get one rated for two amps.

What would the benefit be of having a charger that is capable of 2 amps rather than 1 amp?

Are amps the determining factor on charge times? Or is that the number of volts? If it is the amps then what do the volts do?

As long as I will be able to charge/maintain the battery with this charger, I think I will be ok with it.

Or would a PSP charger with 5v output @ 2 amps be better than 5.4v output @ 1 amp?

The volts will always be (almost) the same: 5-5.4v

The amps (ie current) will determine how much power you can get out of the charger, because power = volts x amps.

So, when you need a lot of power (using a low battery and running your Axim with WiFi/bluetooth/video etc) you'll need lots of amps.

If you only plan on charging the battery with the Axim turned off, you shouldn't experience the problems that have been concerning others. I don't know if it will effect the charge time though, or if this is regulated - help here!?!?

I need to pick up a car charger too - can someone help; are the Pelican PSP chargers the best way to go for high power?

What I do is connect my Socket Power Pack to the car with my X5 car charger (yes, I'm a bad person ) and connect my Axim to that. The battery won't overdraw the car charger, so it doesn't matter if the Axim draws up to 1.8A.
