Are all Stylus the same?
I should of probably asked this before. I was looking around and decided to take a plunge on some of these.

Are they all the same? I didn't really think about it until now... but I assume each of the manufacturers have designed these simple tools with some degree of logic, to prevent any damage to the PDAs from simple use.

I really didn't like my stylus pen at all. For whatever reason my Ax responded very poorly. The finger tip stylus looks pretty cool. My co-worker likes his very much.

There a a few stylus reviews in the Accessories area - I'd suggest checking those out to begin. I use a pen/stylus combo due to the better 'feel' when writing, especially if using Calligrapher or transcriber.

The pen isn't bad but sometimes when I try to hit something on the onscreen keyboard, I know damn well I was aiming for a certain letter, but because of it's small size I can't hold it steadily enough to be as precise as I wish to be.

I'll report back here with how I like the fingertip stylus whenever I get them. It said free standard shipping... 9.99 for 4 of them, your choice of colors. I don't know what "standard" shipping is to them, though. I guess 3-5 business days? Ah well, until then I still have the pen.

I have had a number of PDAs and the stylii associated with each of them. I find the X50V stylus to be one of the most uncomfortable to use of any of them. It is so thin that my fingers and hand start going numb with extended usage. I have a couple of those multi-pen stylus combinations. Stylus Central.com has a fairly good selection.

Yeah, I never liked the stylus that came with the Axim. I have several different ones that are combo pens and stylus. Except for one time accidentally leaving the ink out when I used it on the screen (luckily no damage), they work pretty well.

But as far as quality and materials used in the stylus, does that matter much? I mean SHOULD I be looking at what the stylus is made of prior to ordering? Or do they all do the same thing, and all won't pose ANY damage as long as they're smooth at the tip? Probably a silly question but I'd rather ask and KNOW than assume and be unsure.

if you're using a screen protector then it's a lot less critical i suppose.

If i wasn't using a screen protector then i'd worry a lot more about my stylus (i've used some ones for my old Clie that were downright evil)

I guess I'll just use my best judgement when I get the thing. I thought in theory it wouldn't matter what it's made of, as long as it's not a strongass magnet or have a rough surface... but like I sad, figured I'd ask to be sure.

Personally, I think the material of the stylus is not as important as how you use it, as long as the stylus itself is smooth and not scratch the surface easily.

Let's say, do you usually write with great force? Try not to put excessive pressure to the screen while writing. A good screen protector will also ease your mind.

You also want to keep your stylus tip clean. You would be surprised how much junk can build up over a period of time and that can scratch your screen.

I use a $7.00 Merangue red ink/black ink/.5 pencil/sytylus from Staples. I use it daily flying in a patrol aircraft and it works great. After a few months the mechanical pencil portion of it jammed up,but for 7 bucks big deal, but the stylus is great especially for a natural pen feel.

Yeah, maybe I'll stop by Staples and see if they have a regular sized pen stylus available.

I use an empty bic pencil when I have it lying around =) works great, and (w/o lead) it's just a little plastic tip. That, and it'll cost maybe 25 cents (in a package of 10)
