Washing screenprotectors
Hey all,

I just bought this new screen protector that works great (screen patronus).
Anyways, I installed it and the first time everything went great, no bubble, no dust etc..
Then I noticed that its more near the lowerpart of the screen than the upper part which bothered me so I reapplied it.

Then some dust got in.
It said its washable, so I washed it with soap.

But during the drying process dust sticks onto it, plus my fingermarks are visible.
I washed and dried it several times in different ways (leaving it alone, blow dryer, wiping it with some cloth etc...)

How do you wash it and dry these things?

The only reason to wash with water (and I wouldn't recommend soap) is if you got some ink on it.

To get rid of dust, use scotch tape. If it's just a portion of the screen, just lift up the nearest corner with scotch tape, then use another piece of scotch tape to 'grab' the dust.

If you remove the whole screen protector for lots of dust, just apply a few overlapping strips of scotch tape of the 'adhesive side', then remove as you apply to the screen.

It sounds simple, but may take 2 - 3 hours, depending on how anal you are

I did wash mine, water and soap (liquid soap), and reapplied it just fine.
You need to dry it with something that doesn't have any lint, I think I just used a towel and blotted it. I checked for lint, and I think the scotch tape thing would be great; but I don't recall seeing any problems before.

on a package of reusable/washable protectors, the instructions said to "flap dry" -- that is to say, shake lightly until very little water remains. the last remaining droplets of water will dry on their own and will be of no bother.

I suggest that you use some scotch tape(wrap it around your finger and just rub it around on the back, practice will get out of the bubbles)

My personal way was indeed washing the thing with water, soap and a soft sponge. The next thing to do is shake it dry and then use toiletpaper to soak up the small remaining droplets.

The next step is indeed applying it (use a creditcard to 'wipe it on' and also if necessary remove the bubbles. If there are more bubbles they are usually caused by specs of dust. My way of cleaning is a small paper-cutting knife. With it, I both can lift the corner of the protector, and actually lift the dust with it. Touching the dust with the knife works very well, static energy rules. Just make sure you have a steady hand!

I don't care how bad the dust might be, you'll never see me taking a razor knife anywhere near my Axim's screen!

Search these forums for instructions on installing the boxwave protectors.

After washing, I blow dry mine and use tape to lift the dust.

Why bother washing them? I bought a 10 pack from Dell a year ago when I purchased my unit & I still have have 6 or 7 left. I seems like a waste of time to me just to save a couple of bucks. I wouldn't think they would stick as well to the screen after washing them.

I don't wash my... except when I splat a few of my lunch on it...
Even then I just wipe it with a paper towel...
I think screen protector meant to be dirty

Based on the amount of time this has taken to resolve is it less expensive to replace with a new one while the other one dries in a sealed container?
