Video out card for Axim x50?
Hey guys,
Ive got an Axim X50 and was wondering if theres some sort of video out expansion card or something I can get for it so I can stream movies off of the device and onto a tv? (rca/s-video/vga out). Thanks!

It's only possible with the x50v or x51v to use the vga cable, but then you need to get a vga to rca converter to play on your tv.

hhmm theres no sort of add-in card that will allow video out? I saw this ( http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SDV-841&cat=PDA ) product online which plugs into the sdcard slot and allows power points to be displayed..but for some reason I think thats all it can do. Anyone know any more about that product or another which can display video?

From what I understand, only VGA devices can output to a TV/Monitor...etc.

Yes, there are compact flash type VGA output cards available for pocket PC devices. They are kind of expensive though.
Google: vga output compact flash
and you'll find several.

hhmm has anyone had any experience with the "Margi Presenter-to-Go CF card" acording to this ( http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/peripherals/video.htm ) site it says it supports direct writes to the screen which I imagine means it can play video... but I wonder how well?

Hi,

According to the Margi homepage

They are saying "video files" .....
Now as you state it is only a matter of quality.

I have not seen the resolution and speed delivered by X50v/X51v anywhere else.
I have just bought a VGA to Video Converter - small and sleek - using 5V like the Axim - one the best addon this year.

Regards Will

i believe Margi used to have a SD 'video out' card, but was discontinued

edit: (taken from margi website)

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
All hardware products have been discontinued, and are not available for sale at this site. Some distributors/resellers may still offer these products that are not directly supported by MARGI any longer. Check out the list of distributors/resellers who still offer the products at

The only way I can think of getting smooth video out of a PDA is going to be getting a model that has it built in such as an x50v or x51v. I really think the easiest and best way to do this is sell your x50 and purchase something with VGA out then just get an adapter that converts the VGA signal to something that can be hooked up to a TV.

I just don't think the SD or CF interface can move enough data to show smooth video out of the PDA. (remember the video output would have to be uncompressed)

Yes, it is OK for connecting to a VGA monitor; but if you wish to connect to a S-video or composit monitor (TV) you still need a VGA to S-video converter.

And by the way, it is only for the Axim "V" models with buildin VGA adapter, and the question is regarding a X50 model not a X50V model.
