Battery latch error? Check the battery!
I have 2 "no-name" 2200maH extended batteries which I swap in and out of my Axim. Lately I started getting the battery latch error quite frequently. I'd had this happen before and I took a nail file to the little prongs on the battery door and the problem stopped. So when it started happening again I did a little more filing but it didn't help.

Then today I was out and about and the battery got low so I decided to swap it with my spare. As I was swapping out batteries I noticed the one I had just removed was bulging in the middle. I probably would not have noticed the swelling if I didn't have second identical battery to compare it to, but apparently it had swollen enough to cause pressure on the battery door and trigger the latch message.

This particular battery was purchased just 5 months ago from Aximcases.com. It is listed as an "Energy Leaf" brand, although the battery itself is not marked. They state a 1 year warranty so I have just requested a replacement.

So if you have been getting battery latch error messages, don't just assume it is a problem with the latch or the door — check your battery, too! The bulging might not be obvious, but you can place the battery on a flat surface and try to rock it back and forth to determine if it might be swelling.

Its common for a damaged Li-ion battery. It can be caused by a manufacturing problem, over charging, over discharging, or charging at too high of voltage. The Axim should have enough safeguards built in to prevent most problems except it can't get around manufacturing defects. Although its always good to never fully discharge a li-ion battery if possible try to charge it before it drops below 20% charge.

I had this happen to a Mugen 2200 mAh battery. I would stop using any swelling battery and replace it as soon as possible.

I've been experiencing the battery latch problem more and more frequently as well, and after having read this thread, went to check my battery. I didn't notice any noticeable bulge, but changed the battery anyway. The error message no longer appears! *touch wood* Thanks for sharing, MeSue.

FYI - Aximcases issued an RMA for the defective battery with no problem. I just gave them all the details of my order and described the problem.
