Dell Screen Protector
I have one question, how do you make them stay on the screen? Mine keeps on moving around.

Thanks,
Taylor

I'm interested are they actually worth using? What are the benefits and cons?

Nope. Woops. Forgot there was one. I don't know if there are any cons/pros. I had them for a day!

Pros are that you protect your screen from scratches (the protector takes the hit) and so your screen lasts longer, they are a lot easier to replace than the screen is. It can be very annoying after having your nice new shiny Axim for only a day or two and finding a scratch on the screen.

Cons are that it can change the way the screen feels or looks, some protectors have a slightly sticky surface (people have commented that furniture polish can help there) , a slightly rough surface, or even changing the brightness of the screen. Another con is that there are too many choices!

Yeah. So many screen protectors. Well this screen protector is fine. The screen does have a new feel to it. But I can live with it. Screen protectors are a hastle to apply. I still have air bubbles. And dust on the protector. This is my first screen protector I have ever owned. So I don't know the tips to applying them. So .
The such a hastle.

I am with tjasko. I have six more hours of charging before I can use my X51v for the first time, so while waiting, I put on the screen protector I ordered from Dell. Dust galore. Now what? Is the dust going to hurt my screen in the long term?

Major design flaw - when you peel the backing you charge the protector, so of course dust is attracted. Grrrrrrr.

What now?

if you have dust, turn on your shower(hot water) and let your bathroom fill up with humidity. that's so that the air is filled with water instead of lint. while the you let the shower run, go to your sink and run luke warm water out of the tap and gently rub any of the lint on the screen protector off(gently, if you use a hard object like a credit card or something be carefull because you could scrape off some of the glue or whatever it is). then let it air dry while the shower runs. then apply the screen protector, a little water might still be on the protector just shake it off as best you can.

hope this helps, I botched my first one and everyone since. but afterwards I have cleaned it off and reapplied it with okay results

Thanks. I have been looking at other threads recommending the steam room. The other advantage of the method is minimizing static electricity. Something to do this weekend.

The best screen protectors I have used that apply without bubbling are Boxwave - I use the anti glare which gives a matt finish but you don't tend to notice it in use; the only odd thing I found was they seem to apply better after being rinsed in soap and water and dried.

I put on a screen protector only a week ago,i managed without bubbles and almost no dust traped! But the cardboard applicator left a lot of fine scratches everywhere.I dont notice them unless i look carfully, but the screen looks better without the protector

On the other side when i first bought my dell i was away for 5 months when i sent a lot of emails at the end there were small holes in the screen where i tapped the keyboard!!Luckly the bluetooth had a defect so it was changed by dell when i got home, and thats why i intended to use a screen protector!!Though i only just put it on!!
This year i dident type nearly as much so no damage yet!!!

I just started using a home made screen protector 4 weeks ago with no problem.
I went to the fabric section of Walmart and found the rolls of vinyl tablecloth protectors that they sell in various thicknesses. I bought a yard of they're second thinest roll. Cut it with an xacto blade to the dimensions of the Axim being careful not to get dust on it. Works perfect and it sticks to the screen without falling off. I store the extra material in a sealed plastic bag so it won't dry out. So for about a $1 and my time, I have about 150 protectors, this will last a long time. They are clear also, better than the ones I purchased before figuring this out.
