Does X51v has internal charge controller?
I am thinking about alternative charging methods for my Axim x51v, and wonder if it has an internal charge controller, such that it could accept a range of voltage and current inputs and convert them to what it needs safely.

Also, what range of charging input ratings is acceptable to the axim?

Specifically, I am wanting to make a solar charger for it, and can get nicely sized (3X6" or 3X4.5") flexible cells rated at 3.0V or 3.6V /100mA.

Whereas the standard Dell AC charger put out 5.4V / 2410 mA. I could combine two solar cells, making a folding assembly not much bigger than an Axim in a case, and get 6V. Would this hurt it? It would take much longer to charge.

If there is interest, I might possibly eventually, (note three qualifiers), sell these online.

thanks,

Capt. Mickey

The 6.0V will be fine but connecting the cells in series will still only give you 100mA. Don't forget that is the rating under optimum conditions and in practical usage you could probably expect half of that unless it is a really sunny day. I think if you want your idea to be a goer that you are going to have to use a larger panel. Also make sure that the panel incorporates a blocking diode otherwise if the output drops from cloud or shadow etc. you will find that the Ax. will discharge through the panel.
