x51v and Thumb keyboard or IR keyboard
Hi all! Has anyone used the snap on thumb keyboard with the x51v? I had it with my x30 and liked it ok but I always thought I might be better with the IR keyboard....I use a laptop regularly so I am used to closely laid out keys like on some of the IR keyboards and actually like them

I was just looking for some real world feedback on the two keyboards...I have read the IR review and it looks pretty good so I am leaning in that direction but I thought I would reach out to my trusty aximsite buddies for any feedback!

Thanks-and I hope everyone (who celebrates!) has a happy Turkey Day!

Just purchased a thumb keyboard not worth it. Go for the IR keyboard.

the thumb is so cumbersome, it makes the axim look ugly.

-- Cheers.

Thanks! that was sort of my thoughts when I had it with the x30 but I wasn't fond of the square shape of the x30 so I thought that just might have been what I rembering-if only my original Handspring stowaway keyboard had been IR instead of using the handspring connector!!!

THanks

It depends on how you plan on using it. If you mainly use your Axim with a desk or hard surface infront of you then the IR keyboard would be great but if you need something more portable that you can use anywhere then the thumb keyboard wins hands down. Personally, I don't care how the Axim looks as long as it does what I need it to do so the thumb keyboard's looks don't really mean much to me even though it does make the Axim less attractive. If I were to buy one of the two right now I'd get the thumb keyboard just for the added potability.

I have the Thinkoutside BT keyboard, and it is awesome. I have had other fold-up keyboards, and hardly used them because they were brutal. Thinkoutside makes a BT and an IR. Highly recommended!!!

I have a ThinkOutside IR keyboard. I've used it extensively with my Ipaq 2215 and now I'm using it with my x51v. It is a great accessory that is universal and doesn't use up the PPC's battery. It does need some type of flat surface to be most efficient.

Note: after several days of troubleshooting, I can caution the user not to use the coexistance feature of the driver. It interfers with the Dell WLan Utility. Otherwise, this is a great product. I highly recommend it.

I have a Stowaway (iGo) Sierra Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth mouse. I went for the Bluetooth instead of Ir, just because it gives the flexibility to put the Axim a large distance away from your keyboard and mouse. Why would I do that (I won't see the Axim screen then!!!). Well, with the VGA out cable and the x51v in the Mirror mode, I can hook the x51v...

1) to my 50" LCD TV which has a PC In (VGA in) and use it from my sofa (12 feet away)
2) to my 19" LCD Monitor which sits in my breakfast area corner on a stand and use it from the breakfast table (about 5-6 feet away).

I always I have the option to put the Axim in front of the keyboard on the PDA stand (enclosed with the keyboard) and use the Axim's screen itself for display. Specificallywhen using the Axim in Mirror Mode with VGA out, I use the ozVGA tool to set the Axim in the real VGA mode with 640 X 480 output to the external display.

I have been using the above setup(s) for the past 2-3 weeks. No problems..

i have the belkin thumb keyboard and I love it. its much easier to use than the on-screen keyboard. however if you are going to do a lot of word processing or tons of typing than a full size keyboard might be better.

I'm an x-blackberry user and would like to try the belkin thumb keyboard. I figure it'll be useful for emailing, relatively in depth notetaking, etc. Also, it may make playing games a bit easier -- there'll be more hard button options and I would rather ruin the keyboard than the actual hard buttons on the axim.
