A few questions
Hi.
I'm thinking about purchasing a Dell Axim X51v but I have a few questions before purchasing...

1. If I buy the 2200mAh battery, will it add additional bulk to the Axim?

2. What's a good leather case that supports the extended battery but that also has 2 SD slots/pockets to hold them? Also, for the leather case, it'd be preferred if the flap can be hidden behind the axim when it's in use

3. Does the Axim support 8gb SD cards and 16gb CF cards? Because I have heard some people talking about purchasing one for it, but only when the price for them goes down, meaning that it should be able to work with it? Similar to Palm, they have said that the LifeDrive only supports to 2gb SD cards, but people use 4gb SD cards with it and work perfectly fine.

4. Are the SD/CF cards hot-swappable?

5. If so, if I were to make a playlist of mp3's from the songs that were on the SD/CF card, and I removed the SD/CF card, would the playlist temporarily disappear? Or would it remain there but give me an error saying that certain things are inaccessable?

6. Can you access mp3's and videos on the SD/CF cards normally like how you would if it were on the internal memory? Or would you have to go through some kind of special menu to reach it?

7. Final question, can the Axim be charged through the USB cable to a power source and still be able to use it simultaniously? Meaning that I use the USB cable to charge it to an outlet and not to a PC therefore not syncing with it.

1. Yes
2. The dell executive leather one is good for me. 2xSD slots and 2xCF slots.
3. Don't know. It seems that the SDHC cards doesn't work, but 4GiB SD cards from Transcend do.
4. Not really. Sometimes my x51v loose the CF card when I switch cards even if I put it on standby. SD Cards are less of a problem for me. May be a software issue.
5. Depends on mp3 playing application and configuration.
6. Normally. In "file open" menus you simply locate the sd/cf card (In root folder)
7. No idea. Someone else will have to answer that one. One interpretation of your question suggests "yes".

What do you want to do with it?

In response to 3, it's not SDHC... It's a standard SD card, search 8gb sd card and you'll see an 8gb OEM standard SD card, not SDHC

also, i woudlnt' particularly be hot-swapping CF cards, since they're so big and slower than SD cards

mmm but I'd be basically just watching movies and sometimes listen to music... Although I have a PSP and an ipod video, i'd prefer to use my PSP 4gb stick for games and my ipod video for music, since the screen's too small for movies in my opinion

but for 7, what i mean is like, plug it into a portable charger that uses batteries to charge things through a USB connection, like that apple ipod shuffle portable charger, since it universally accepts USB connections, i'm assuming that it could charge my axim through it's USB port, but at the same time hoping that it'll also let it be fully functional

HellDemon - Congratulations to your first post !

A lot of good questions.

I wonder about no 7:
Usually the ax only charges through the USB when switch off - I think.
I've owned 3 ax's by now and never seen the light turned green on a USB cable only.
But I could be wrong

Welcome to the AximSite

Re Q#7 -- I use my Axim while charging with my Belkin 3-way travel charger kit: one USB cable, one wall plug brick with USB socket and one cigarette lighter adapter with USB socket.

My Axim also charges in the cradle while I'm using it. I know because I use the cradle to hold the Axim while I enter data to it via my PC keyboard (ppcconnector, freeware). I do this in my den while watching TV: the Axim will be on all evening; when I take it out of the cradle and put it in my rhinoskin its fully charged.

I've read here that some sync cables aren't charging cables, but I have no experience with that.
