I'm trying to decide whether I want to buy a 1800mAh battery or a 2200mAh and my question is does the Axim still fit in the slip case with the 1800mAh battery on? If it doesn't then I might as well go for the 2200 because my main worry is the size.

Do you mean the slip case that came with the axim? Then, the answer is yes. In fact, the 1800mAh will fit in almost all soft cases that fit the 1100mAh. That's why I got the 1800 eventhough it's pricey compared to the 2200 in terms of cost per mAh.

I have a pair of 2200mAh batteries, and I use the Dell slip case. The case is a little stretched on one side, but it still works well.

Shipping by USPS Priority Mail is $7.05. And yes it is 10% off both the item AND shipping costs.
