It's very nice and it works great. There is a review on our site. But it's very expensive.

You'll discover that it's much, much cheaper to buy the parts and build one yourself.
Using completely new parts, I can build an equivalent battery pack for less than $35, including the digital power supply module and charger circuit.

BTW, a good place to find batteries is discarded UPSes. Look for a small one that appears to still be in good condition. The battery increases in resistance which makes it lose capacity in a few years, but since even a high end handheld is a very small load, the resistance is insignificant. (About an amp or two at most compared to more than 15A for a 200W UPS. UPS batteries are made for high current anyways. The battery will fail for some other reason before it degrades to the point where it couldn't support a 2A load.)

Note that a typical small UPS uses a 4Ah, 12v battery. Since the digital power supply module would roughly halve the current drawn, that's equivalent to more than 8Ah at 5v!

The socket mobile is a nice unit but there are other competitors out there that may offer better value and performance for the dollar. Check out the tekkeon mypowerall as well as others.

Newegg has the oem version for ~ 107 bucks

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...NE&N=0&Ntk=all

when I did the conversion awhile ago the tekkeon had a higher power rating than the socket by a fair margin. Plus, you have a ton of selectable voltages plus the ability to charge and run your laptop.

Funny, newegg used to carry the Socket Mobile product but all they carry or advertise now are the bar code scanners.

There's another one that's quite good and i'm trying to find the link for you but no luck at the moment.

Just to get back to this thread ... www.batterygeek.net is the site that I couldn't remember last time. They have some pretty neat products ... if I was super serious at portable power then i'd really consider them.

Otherwise i'd probably stick with the Tekkeon because it looks nicer than most of the batterygeek products.

I would like to use an external battery for my X51. Does anyone know what the pinout on the battery (PN T6476) is? .
