IR or Bluetooth Keyboard?
I have a Belkin snap on thumb keyboard that is great when I am not sitting at one place or sitting at a desk or table. But I have decided to start using my X51v for taking notes in class so I am thinking about buying a full sized keyboard. I was thinking about getting one of the Think Outside keyboards but I didn't know if I should get the bluetooth or IR. It will be mostly used right next to each on a desk. Your input would be great, thanks!

I favor the ThinkOutside IR keyboard. It is universal, at least so far. I bought it for use with my iPaq 2215 several years ago. Now, I am using it with my x51v. I use the ThinkOutside BT travel mouse simultaneously with the IR keyboard. No conflicts. Also, no extra battery draw with IR as opposed to BT.

If you are willing to pay three times the price of an IR keyboard, go for a bluetooth keyboard. It's more convenient if you don't have a stable surface or if the table is not big enough.

I have the BT one and LOVE it. Yes, its more $$, but you do not have to worry about "line of sight" alignment. I have not noticied any significant battery drain with BT. usueally use it for about an hour at a time.

If you plan on using it for plane trips. Remember: IR is fine, bluetooth is not.

Bluetooth is superior. I've had both.

I use the PalmOne IR keyboard; bought off E-bay for cheap. Works beautifully 100% of the time.

Never tried the IR so can't comment ... have the TO BT Stowaway ... and I love it. For what it's worth.

I, too, use it for taking notes in class.

If you decide to check out the TO BT keyboards seriously consider the Sierra one (the latest) as it's a bit bigger than my Stowaway but has the dedicated number row which I do miss. I'm still getting used to a lack of a number key row ...

I have the think outside Stowaway BT keyboard - love it!.

To me, the SIERRA looked a bit too bendy and complicated, I watched this looong review about it:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=P8HAge9yJu4

Stowaway is pretty solid and gets pretty good reviews all round.

I picked bluetooth so I wouldn't have to worry about lining everything up & so I could flip from upright to sideways whenever the mood stuck me. Plus I have bluetooth on my PC & Phone, but no IR.

each to his own though!

I got the Bluetooth Thinkoutside Sierra Keyboard (five rows) for these reasons...

1) Can use it when I hookup the Axim x51v to my 50" LCD TV via VGA out, int True VGA mode. I can then sit on the sofa about 12 feet away.
2) At home I regularly use the Axim x5v with a 19" LCD monitor (it sits in a corner in b'fst area) and I can use it using Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth mouse. It's my substitute for a laptop computer for basic computing needs.

The #2, #3 above were my requirements, so I had to get a Bluetooth one. I can still use it with the Axim next to the keyboard and mouse.

BTW, this keyboard and mouse is also compatible with a Mac or PC (have not tried that yet) if they have a Bluetooth.

The disadvantage is I cannot use it on an airplane or with an IR only PDA (I have a iPaq 3850)

I got both

IR is good when... well I never liked the Think Outside IR, doesn't like to work with extended batteries well.

The Think Outside BT is the best for me, I can use it with my computers/laptops and all my PDA's. Best thing is when you connect one of your devices to a TV/montior and you can lay on a couch and use it. Plus I'm using the Think Outside BT mouse with my laptop everyday, so it's very useful for what I have.

If you can shell out the extra money go with the Bluetooth.

I was wondering...How do you hook your X51v uo to a TV or monitor? Is there some kind of adapter that can allows for VGA output?
