Hey all, thanks for all the great info contained in these forums. I've been lurking for some time, but this is my first topic post.

Afarre's super jacket inspired me to try to use my X51v as an on- and off-road (4x4) navigation computer coupled with an LCD touchscreen I have laying around (Lilliput 7"). After getting the VGA going to the little monitor (so simple on these Axims), I picked up a Ratoc compact flash USB host to interface with the touchscreen module.

Unfortunately, I cannot get the Ratoc card to talk to any USB devices. Using a device manager, I can clearly see that the OS has powered up the card and loaded the driver. When I plug in a USB keyboard the num, scroll, and caps-lock LEDs flash as they should and turn off, but I get no input from the keys. Mice and USB flash drives do absolutely nothing. I tried re-installing the driver and even tried installing the driver with the polling option.

Nothing has helped and I'd really like to utilize the Ratoc card as it was pretty expensive (and trying to read topographical maps on the Axim's screen is difficult when off-roading on trails).

I think you need to verify that the HID (human interface device) driver is loaded.
Have you tried a usb memory stick to see if it's recognized?

I ran the installer on the HID driver, but it doesn't appear to load up when I plug devices in. The keyboard should just work with the HID driver right? I did load some cursor program for the mouse, but the HID driver doesn't seem load up for that either.

Ran the mass storage driver installer, without errors, but USB flash sticks don't even light up when I plug them in.

I thought it might be a problem with the dongle/pig-tail USB connector, but it seems like at least the keyboard gets momentary power and does SOMETHING.

Should I just bite the bullet and do a factory reset and try the USB host card and a device on a clean OS install? Might my CF GPS reciever drivers be in conflict? (Globalsat BC-337)

Update: I ended up resetting the Axim to factory defaults, re-installing the host and HID drivers and got my keyboard (first step) to be recognized by my Ratoc USB host card. After some more fiddling and painful manual registry editing, I also got my touchscreen working too!

It sure is nice to have USB capabilities on the X51v, even at the expense of displacing my excellent CF-GPS card. Now I just need to get the touchscreen mounted in my fiancee's Jeep (she's the lucky one with the 4x4 ;)
