Long last, I believe I finally found a way to get 2.4A at 5V through the USB cable to my axim. I have the axim cable that Y's to VGA and USB. The way is the:
Creative Labs ZEN Power Adapter!
...this took me a long time to find of course since most usb wall adapters are 500mah -> 1000mah. As far as I can tell it is the same AC adapter as the one that ships with the unit, right down to it's dc (male) plug size. I have plugged it directly into an axim connector from it's dc male adapter and it works no differently in powering my unit; the only difference is it comes with a magical DC -> USB adapter. The only catch is that the usb connector is male and type b, so now I have to run to radioshack/circuit city and buy a usb cable kit to get a usb (type b, female) -> usb (type a, female) adapter and then I should be able to connect to a vga monitor and charge at 2.4A at the same time!
Here it is :)

Please keep in mind, your usb -> axim cable may not be able to handle that kind of power (meaning big trouble if it can't, like adapter/axim damage, cable melting, house catching on fire). I am only assuming mine can handle it because I really want it to and it works flawlessly when I send 850A up it (when I don't go above 850A).
If anyone needs a link or picture to a
USB (female) type-a -> USB (female) type-b connector, let me know.
