Recording stereo?
Ok, this probably isn't possible, but you never know till you ask, right?

I've been nosing round here for a little while and found the wiring for the audio connector socket on the x51a. Stereo out, mono in (presumably mic-level, as opposed to line-level.)

But... is there any way, using that beast of a connector at the bottom of the device, to get, say, stereo line-level input? Maybe it needs a separate piece of hardware with it's own ADC - does anyone know if such a thing exists? M-Audio make a USB device - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Transit-main.html - but I don't suppose it's possible to connect it to the Axim, is it?

I'm a musician and it would be great to be able to use the Axim to record while I'm out and about - it would then be a great replacement for the old Sony DAT machine I used to have.

Welcome to Aximsite!

Core Sound makes a CF sound card:

http://www.core-sound.com/pdaudio-cf/1.php

I've always wanted to try this, but it's not cheap...

BTW, it's also possible to add USB host capability on your Axim using the Ratoc CF USB card, but I'm not sure if your M-audio would work given the lack of drivers. If you know you just need recording capability, the Core Sound card makes the most sense and would be the least bulky.

Gigi,

Thanks very much! That looks just like what I'm after, and it's not tooooo expensive, considering what it'll enable the Axim to do.

I wonder why Dell don't build a stereo ADC into the Axim though?

Cheers!

The demand for such a feature is not high (not many like us, you know..hehe); most people only need the recording feature for notes, lectures, etc. If you do try this, be sure to post back and let us know how it works. I've been lugging around a laptop with an Echo Indigo card for the past year and would love a smaller replacement.

Hey! Did you ever buy that CF audio interface? I'd like to know what you thought!
