FM transmitters work, but
the sound quality is not the best. Cassette adapters also work.
Some vehicles have an AUX input jack. For some, it is a 3.5mm jack on the front of the head unit. For others, it could be component (RCA jacks for R/L) or a proprietary input on the rear of the head unit or amplifier. Some 3rd party AUX input adapter kits are available for select vehicles.
My van has a 6-disc DVD player in the dash, which has component inputs for audio and video. I use a 3.5mm stero to component adapter cable to connect my Axim's audio to the vehicle's sound system.
My son uses a FM transmitter.
My other son is saving to purchase an AUX adapter kit for his car.
3 vehicles, 3 solutions.
You need to investigate what options are available for your vehicle's audio system, then decide how much $, effort, and time you want to invest.
Hope this helps!
