Hey,
I decided to take that leap and made a purchase of the Solar Express CF USB Host this morning. It was listed at $89+$10.XX Fed-Ex shipping+$7 tax=$107.00 total for California.
I intend to do a partial Aximizer mod with it, so I'll be in and out on the board for feedback and tips.
Wow, that's not a bad price! I hope it works well.
Moved to Accessories.
Well, the package/product arrived today. Easy install & setup with this added program called SEPDA Monitor that identifies the status and connection history. There is also a media player called TCPMP provided on the CD-ROM. The one difference is the use of the mini-A USB cable.
I attached my external USB hard drive and everything was just fine. My plans are to attach a 2.5" IDE (using external enclosure) to the X50V and a touchscreen monitor. Of course I'll have to build a mini-aximizer.
Would you be able to us the CF USB host to hook up to the internet via a tethered modem like a Blackberry? I just thought that would be cool. I don't know if Blackberry has regular internet functions, but it would increase functionality of the Axim.

Blackberries are already bluetooth... why bother with a wired connection?
I didn't realize blackberries had bluetooth. Would that work for modem capabilities? i.e.-would that work for connecting a computer/axim to the internet? I am not sure how much extra you would gain by connecting the axim to the internet versus the blackberry, but I thought it might be a nicer screen and the stylus versus pure keyboard and button functionality.

I haven't attempted to try it yet, but I don't see why it won't work. As soon as I get the Blackberry internet package put back onto my account I'll try it out and post my results.
Just two questions I wanted to ask before buying this USB host.
1.) Will I be able to use 2.5" laptop HD (inside of USB external case) on Axim x50v with SolarExpress USB host, BUT without external power supply?
2.) Is it possible to use Toshiba 1.8" HD (used on iPod colour), which is mounted into USB external 1.8" case, on Axim x50v with SolarExpress USB host, BUT without external power supply to the disk?
Basically, I am trying to find a way how to connect at least 30 GB drive to Axim without external power and use it as my Music Player.

You will need to power the drive externally as the axim will not be able to provide enough power to power either drive. You'd be better off with a micro drive.

Hi,
I had the same idea. I have a 2.5" laptop HD that I wanted to use in an external enclosure. I found that someone said that Axim provides about 3.X volts and the HD requires about 5VDC.
I still plan to use the device when I build a version of Afarre's Aximizer, but not as robust. I need to provide 5VDC & 12VDC power to the 'docking station' to power the USB hub.
I want to connect the 7" in-dash flip up screen to the X50V and use the external 2.5" HD as the storage for my data, music, and videos.
