Any Experience with Car Chargers?
Hi everybody,
I'm hoping that at least a couple of you have used the Boxwave Car Charger Direct (http://www.boxwave.com/products/carc...direct_747.htm ) or the Car Charger (High Power Output) bundle (http://www.boxwave.com/products/bund...bundle_747.htm )before. Does anyone have experience using either of these?

I am using my x51v with TomTom 6 and have realized that it would be a good idea to keep my baby plugged in while using it...do these 2 chargers allow me to use and charge my x51v simultaneously? Or is there a better option that will allow me to use and charge my Axim while I drive around (using BT for TT6)?

Thanks,
/tk

Egads, definitely get a car charger for your Axim! You never know when (or where) your Axim and GPS will run out of power .

Along with my X50v running Tom Tom with a BT GPS, I have the charger that Dell sells from its website. That has worked fine. A car battery itself can easily charge the Axim while it's running. You just need to make sure that the car charger itself supports at least 1 Amp, which the Boxwave (high current output) one does. You should be fine with that.

Good to know, alantdc...
You know, I almost bought the charger from Dell (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=310-5767 ) but the list of compatible devices says:
Compatible Products
This product is compatible with the following systems:
Dell Axim 300 MHz
Dell Axim 400 MHz
Dell Axim X3
Dell Axim X30
Dell Axim X3i
Dell Axim X5
Dell Axim X50
Dell Axim X50V
Dell Axim X51

Note it makes no mention of the x51v, which seems odd (and is why I haven't purchased it).

That car charger should be fine. They probably just forgot to update the description. Hardware-wise, X50v and X51v are virtually identical.

terpkristin,

What has been your experience with your Boxwave charger so far?

I purchased a car charger from Pocket Solutions so I could use my x51 with my Garmin while driving. Only when I plugged it up it started flickering badly. I contacted them and they assured me I had received a defective charger and sent me a new one - I tried the new one out today only to get the same results.

I never have been able to locate the amps on the PS charger but I am guessing that is what the problem is - not enough to power the Axim.

The Boxwave was the only one I had seen that clearly stated Voltage Output: 5V 1000mA+ - I hadn't seen any rated any higher. How has it tested out?

Actually, scratch that - I just found a car charger designed for the PSP and picked it up - it actually works perfectly!! Only cost around $9 too. Can't beat that.

Output was 5V / 2 amps - no flickering with both bluetooth and wifi turned on and running applications. I think I have my problems solved.
