Do most people put sheets on their PDA screens? Is the reason they come in packets of 3 or 5 or more because they eventually wear out? How long does that usually take?
Also, looking at other accessories, are there really any 'better' stylus pens out there? Or is it just the size?
You can get different screen protectors, some are better than others and have different properties. They wear out depending on which ones they are and how you use them. I've had the same one on for about a year, but it is pretty scuffed up and probably about time I changed it.
You can get a variety of pens that double as a Stylus as well. I have a Calibri one that is a black pen, red pen, pencil and stylus. Works very well.

I do use sheets, as I noticed a couple of scratches on my screen. I bought a 12 pack of universal sheets, and will just use those. The sheets of different manufacturers have different properties. Some are softer, and scratch more with regular use. Some are harder, and don't scratch as much. I don't know which are which, but they are made to be disposable. They take the abuse so the screen doesn't. It's like wax on a car. It is supposed to take the abuse so the paint doesn't. You just have to reapply it so often.

I've had my boxwave for almost a year and the only noticeable scratch is in the upper right hand corner where you tap to close a program. It's money well spent
I'm also a newbie to PDAs and am waiting on delivery of X51v bought on eBay.
I read in another thread that the stylus holder in the Axim is thinner than those on a lot of other devices so it appears that buying just any brand stylus is not an option.
There are many styli on offer at eBay but even if the seller says they are suitable for X51v they are still of unknown quality.
Are factors such as tip softness, tip material, tip size, etc important to the usage and feel of the stylus?
I read somewhere that some styli seem to have a rough dragging feel rather than smoothly sliding across the screen (although I guess this might also be due to a screen protector rather than the stylus).
Do some styli have non slip barrel surface for ease of use (fingers don't slip when holding it) ?
Some styli also have a hard tip for use with the Axim reset button.
Is this necessary/useful? The user manual (yes, I have been reading it!) just shows the normal stylus tip being used.
I also understand that some styli come with inbuilt pens which if used by mistake would damage the screen.
To reduce likelyhood of screen damage from stylus I've just ordered a Martin Fields Overlay Plus Screen Protector (direct from Martin Fields in Singapore) which, while expensive, has really excellent reviews.
I want a simple reasonably priced stylus (no inbuilt pens, etc) which will handle easily and feel comfortable when moving across the screen.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
I just bought some Stylii from dell, as well as a new Cleartouch crystal screen protector. The cleartouch I previously had on my axim was nearly 3 years old. It is pretty scratched up, but my screen is perfect, and I definitely got my money's worth from it. I would recommend getting a new stylus only with a new screen protector....the stock one worked perfectly for me, as I did not need all the extra pens/pencils built in.
Dell delivery costs are too high to justify buying such a small value item from them.
I need to correct my quoted statement above.
I based this statement on the fact that I have bought various components from Dell previously and there was a minimum Australian $25 (approx US$20) delivery fee.
However, the stylus 3 pack currently is AU$13.20 (approx US$10) including delivery.
Order placed and now awaiting delivery.
I bought a stylus online that is "three in one." It has a reset tool, a pen, and is a stylus. The reset tool is not needed as the stylus tip works for resets, but I really like having a stylus with a pen. Granted it is small, but it is great when you need a pen and there is not one around. I find I use the pen a lot. Although I would not want to write a full page letter with that small of a pen, I do not mind taking notes with it.
