Stylus damaging screen?
First off I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so if it is in an inccorect location I apologize. Feel free to move it.

I've had my x51v for a little over a year now, only ever used the stylus that came with it. But recently (maybe i'm just imagining it) it hasn't been dragging very smoothly. For example playing doom it does not feel to slick and i fear i am damaging the screen. Looking closing at the tip i can see the stylus is slightly banged up, little notches and such on the black tip. Now i am paranoid to even use the thing, that i might be permenatly scratching up my screen. (note: i have no screen protector). What should i do? Am i just being paranoid?

Its ok to be paranoid. But if you are even a little then you should get a screen protector asap so that you will be able to stop worrying. i recommend an invisibleshield from shieldzone.com w/ a lifetime warranty or boxwave which i have heard good things about.
Better to be safe then sorry!!! :-)

there's a lot of friction between the stylus tip and the screen

Another option is to get a new stylus. The stylus tip is only a plastic one and it will have wear and tear over time. Scratched stylus tip surely create scratches to the screen.

I personally recommend screen protectors because I like how smooth they are to use the stylus on, and they do keep the screen safe. I recommend Writeshields from PPCTechs. They are much better than Boxwave, but do cost a few dollars more. They are easier to install, don't lift on the edges, and will outlast the boxwave.

I'm a firm believer in the use of screen protectors.......but I haven't been using one on my x51v. My x50v had one and so does my rx3115, but not this toy. I like the nekkid and clear look of the screen and I usually keep it in its rhinocase for protection.
Though I use an aftermarket stylus, just one of those four in one pens. It works beautifuly and I haven't a single scratch that I care about.......

I use a car detailing spray on my screen both with and without a screen protector.I personally like Meguiars Quick Detailer.I spray a very small amount on a microfiber cloth and polish the screen. It leaves a very smooth and slick finish. No dragging. Before anyone gets excited about putting anything on your screen,I have been doing this for several years with no problems.I would also suggest you get a new stylus and as everyone says, get a decent screen protector.I use www.screenguardz.com.

Before anyone gets excited about putting anything on your screen,I have been doing this for several years with no problems.
Just put a drop of mineral oil (electrical/refrigeration grade is best, but regular works fine) on the screen. It acts as a lubricant and fills in any scratches, making them less visible.
BTW, they have submerged PC motherboards in regular mineral oil so it should be safe for electronics. But use electrical/refrigeration grade mineral oil to be safe. (Of course, that costs a lot more than regular so it's generally not worth it. But if you know a coworker/friend who has even an empty container, you should be able to get a drop.)

Actually, you only needed to burnish the tip on a plain piece of white paper. As you rub the tip on the paper, rotate the stylus. The friction will smooth out the tip without tearing off any plastic, like the sandpaper did.

This is one of the WORST things you can put on the screen. Oil will seep into any edges and through capiliary action can soften the seals around the edge of the digitizer assembly, eventually killing it. Keep all chemicals away from the screen.

The best thing for a screen is a screen protector. Don't use a screen protector? - use a kleenex and your hot breath to clean the screen and always rub your finger over the stylus tip before using it to make sure there is no dirt on it that can scratch the screen.

Ok thank you. I'll try the paper thing to smooth out my sanding. I was pretty bad to begin with, huge dents. I was very careful and didn't take off too much plastic

Hopefully my screen protector arrives soon
