Just got myself a usb lead to use with the laptop rather than lug the Dell unit round with me and also to use with in the car when running Tomtom. I’ve had 2 so far and whenever their plugged into the X50 it won’t charge ?
The screen flickers like the charger is going on and off about 5 times a second and if I leave it for a few minutes the Axim resets !! Not good…
Is it me ? (or the Axim, which works fine in the Dell charger !) or am I missing something ? (both leads sync fine)..
When you sync the powers still going through which means the screens flickering which means it'll reset if the sync takes longer than 2 mins ???
Sorry I wasn't to clear, the USB should maintain charge in ax if youare connected, but if you are running programs anax whilst connected it will still drain ax batt. You should not get any variation in ax performance, screen flicker anything unusual. Is your cable aftermarket or dell supplied? check quality. can you plug your charger into cable? if so I would recommend this. Variations in ax performance whilst connected via usb to pc are not acceptible and you may need to check the quality of your cable and backup your ax in case there is something else nappening.
There's a huge stickied thread at the top of this forum (Cable warning) that explains the flickering. Basically, USB ports cannot supply enough power to charge AND power the device (applies to the X50/X51 series) at the same time. The flickering is a symptom that your Axim is alternating between battery and charger. (If you re-adjust the brightness to be the same, the flickering will stop, but the original problem remains.)
As Pedah explained, there are variations in USB cable quality. However, the fact remains that by charging and running your Axim at the same time, you are putting excessive strain on your USB ports. Better to charge with the device powered OFF.
