Powered mount - Itrek vs Seidio

Hello all,

I am looking to get a powered mount for my X50v, mainly for navigation. The two that seem to be the best for my needs are the I-trek, or the Seidio 4500. I will have this in my main driver, so I plan to just hook a cheap wired mouse to it, and both of these support that. I am not too worried about external speakers either. Just want it to hold and power (like the drop in). I have a 3 way cable for power, pda and mouse gps, worked good for 2 years, but now it doesn't always stay connected enough to power the PDA. So I have decided to take a plug out of the equation.

Any thoughts on one over the other, pro's cons? I know the I-trek is cheaper, but what else?

I tried a search and didn't come up with much. I must be search-challenged, cuz I gotta believe there is more than I came up with out there......

I have the I-trek (don't know if there's more than one). I have 2 wired GPS mice. I had to re-design the power to the serial interface because one mouse worked but the other didn't. After a lot of hair pulling, I discovered that the 5.4 volts the cradle generates is too high for one of the mice. I can't explain the mod because I didn't document it (should have). It involved cutting a circuit trace, and installing a 3-terminal 5V regulator to power the serial part of the interface. The regulator heat sink was soldered to the underside of the circuit board for heat dissipation.

The other mod I'm going to make is changing the LED resistor to make the LED brighter.

I had the Axim come un-connected once when I went over a very bumpy road. Never had the problem since.

I bought the Seidio and love it. The first unit I received from them had a flaw with the plug, but they sent me a replacement quickly. This has the built-in GPS receiver and it picks up a signal very quickly. It fits my X50v snuggly, even turned horizontally.

I to bought the seidio. There was a problem towith either the mount and or the sound jumper cable. Seidio replaced it after a few phone calls and a moderate wait. With all this said the replacement has worked without a hitch.
