keyboard conversion

I recently replaced my disappeared X30 with a shiny X50. I had an excellent Dell plug-in keyboard for the X30 and was very disappointed to learn that it doesn't fit with the X50. Questions:

1) Is there any kind of converter from the X30 plug to the X50 plug?
2) Did Dell (or anyone else) make a plug-in keyboard for the X50?
3) Do IR keyboards actually work for word processing (essays, etc.)?
4) Do I have to succumb to the $100 bluetooth variety?
5) After seeing the ITech laser virtual keyboard on CSI Miami one night, I'm wondering if I should save my pennies, for the cool factor alone. Anyone tried one?

Thanks all.

Andy

Welcome to Aximsite!

1) No
2) There are some thumb keyboards available for the X50:

Dell Axim X50v Thumb Keyboard
Home & Home Office: SnapNType Mini Keyboard for Dell Axim X50/ X51 Handhelds

(Be sure to read reviews on them before purchasing.)

3) Yes, but remember that you will need direct line of sight (unlike BT).
4) No, you can use IR keyboards or a thumb keyboard. There are also software keyboards that some people find quite efficient (e.g., Tengo).
5) If you search for reviews on virtual keyboards, you'll find many comments about how the lack of tactile feedback is a problem. But that may be a personal thing.

Thanks so much for your thorough response, and for your welcome! I am disappointed about having to change out the keyboard, but it's good to know that IR is a workable solution.

Thanks again.

I don't think that you can see the keys on the laser keyboard unless you're in a dark room. I have a Brand new Belkin universal inferred PDA keyboard that works perfectly with the Dell x50. $25 shipped. My email is Imamacuser@yahoo.com.
