I tried putting my 2GB SD card into laptop to format and I get a cannot format because of input output error. Any ideas what I could do.

I think I was able to erase the card as it shows 0 used memory but also is in RAW format?

Can you format an SD card while its in the PPC on an x51v

Yes, just use SKTools (use demo) or some storage card utility. Have you tried a card reader?

I had this exact issue with a 2GB Ridata pro 150x sd card. The card worked in the 51v when I first got it, but then I tried to transfer data to it via a built in SD slot in my laptop. After that the card would no longer work in anything. I tried the 51v, and several readers. Thought the card was toast. My wife got a new camera a couple of months ago, and I tried it in there. Yipee it worked, the camera was able to format it. Afterwards I put it in the 51v and deleted the files the camera set up and it works great now.

And I will not let it near the slot in my laptop ever again.

I have the same problem with a sanDisk ultra 2 gig. It is genuine, not a counterfeit, I've been down that road before. Windows or the Ax. can't format it nor can an old Palm which has been successful in the past. I also have a new camera and that won't do it. They all recognize it as a 2 gig card but just say they are unable to format it.
I have replaced the card as they are getting pretty cheap now but I have kept the old one in case I come across a program that will force a format or do a low level format (if there is such a thing).
