CompactFlash Type I & II and Compact Flash Adaptor
Hello,
Wondering if anyone could help with figuring out CompactFlash / GPS hardware compatability questions regarding an Axim X51v? I have an Axim x51v, and a Pharos iGPS360 unit. What I'm looking into is purchasing a CompactFlash adaptor card that will allow me to plug the GPS receiver into the Axim. Can someone help me with the following questions:
1. My Dell owner's manual says it will support CompactFlash Type II cards. Is it also backward compatable-- meaning Will it also support CompactFlash Type I cards/ adaptors?
2. What are the major differances between Type I and Type II cards/adaptors?
3. Is the difference in the two possibly something important like one adapter type will get power from the Axim battery and one will not?
4. I've shopped/researched and see two Adapter Card types that might/might not be compatable with the Axim x51v:
A. Pharos iGPS-360 Receiver CF Adapter - generally around $39.
B. Pharos CF/PCMCIA Adapter for the GPS-360 Receiver - generally around $49. For the life of me, I can't figure out what the differences are...?
5. Since I already have the Pharos iGPS-360 receiver I'd like to see about using it with the Axim for when I want to go GPS mobile- out of the car, in particular for hiking and golfing (with additional software like StarCaddy)?
If possible, I'd prefer not to have to invest in upgrading the GPS receiver (Pharos iGPS-500 for example) hardware if I can get by with using the existing iGPS360 and just add the correct CompactFlash adapter card. I currently use the Axim and i360-GPS along with a Pharos cable kit in the car and it works just fine.
