Dell BT GPS fix problems
I turn on the device and most times I get a fix in 30 seconds (green LED flashing). Sometimes though after I have charged the device I do not get a fix for 5 minutes and at least one time it took over 20 minutes. I have the device in the open, no woods, no high buildings. I read somewhere, although I cannot find it again, that another user had to wait until the power LED started to flash indicating low power before he got a fix. Sounds like it needs a cold boot but I have disconnected the battery and reconnected but that did nothing. It must retain some charge in a capacitor or non volatile device.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Stephen

Sounds like its broken if you ask me.... Though I have never been impressed with the score of reviews for the Dell GPS devices.

I use a Holux M-1000 that I picked up on ebay for about 30$$ and have never had a problem with it, even downtown. Should look into that if no fix.

If the problem really is that it needs low battery before it works then the battery could be over-volting the device... But im not a GPS specialist Does it have a charging cable or AC/DC adapter that can be used with it? If so, try just using the cable and not the battery.

I can't diagnose the prob, but I got a Holux GPSlim 240...about the size of a pack of gum (the ones that used to be 25cents)....got it off ebay for ~$60 including shipping. Love it...great TTFF, picks up tons of satellites usually, and fits perfectly into that useless small pocket of your jeans. Battery life is also great. Anyway, thats my two cents.

Here is a link to buy GPS Now. Their current prices (without our 5% discount) is $65, plus a free mount of some sort. Not a bad deal!
