Need “while-on” car charger - ideally DC or usb, or is an inverter necessary?
I am going to need my axim on all the time while in the car during the couple of months, so I am looking for the best option to power it. Unfortunately, the only power options I’ve seen seem to charge the battery only while the unit is off. Even if if plugged into the cigarette lighter via usb or direct, these chargers apparently don’t power the axim while it’s on, you are just using your battery. Sure this kind of arrangement works if I want to keep swapping batteries all the time, but I’d rather not have to do that.

Does anyone know of a car charging solution that will charge my axe while it’s on? I will use the AC plug and a power inverter if I have to, but again, I’d rather not have to do that.

Last but not least, I remember reading that PSP chargers seem to work OK for axims. If I remember correctly, I saw one that had a row of “AA” rechargables in it that did the trick and could pretty much last all day.

Anyone using their axim in their cars a lot have any links they could share regarding what you are using for power?

PS: a while back I threw together a cheap 4 battery holder from radio shack that I wired to a plug that I hoped would take the place of the AC charger. (I had it plug in the same place, at the end of the 2 1/2 inch adapter that plugs into the axim) While the charging light went on and it may have been charging, it did not power the unit directly....I wonder what would happen if I added two or four more batteries?

I recently bought a PSP car adaptor that functions perfectly with axim.
Just tested it on a trip, used my Axim x51V with a Garmin GPS receiver.
It charges while the Axim is on.
The downside? quite expensive, $25 at Bestbuy.com
Sony - PSP Car Adapter - 98528
Couldn't find a cheaper one that does the same trick.
There are some older articles all over the internet on a PSP charger found at Walmart that was <10$, but I am in NY and we have no Walmarts, and couldn't find the described charger at walmart.com
good luck!

Bump. I'm looking into this too. Anybody know if the Walmart PSP car charger will charge the Axim while it is in use?
