Charging Car Mount?
Hello,

I need a new charging car mount.

I currently own a Seidio G4500S and it was great...until summer came. It melted all this clear plastic all over my dash from sitting in the sun. I called seidio, and they RMA'd me another one...that was last summer.

Obviously 9 months went by when it was nice and cool out and no problems. Perfect actually.

Then summer came again....melted out....plastic everywhere....plastic on the terminals which means....no power to the mount.

I figured I would try to get a new one from them, but since it was 9 months since i got the last one...sorry Charlie...

I would buy another one because i love it anyway....no dice...no more...so it seems.

So does anyone have a good solution for a nice looking (aesthetically pleasing) charing mount? I don't like the ones that hug it and you have to charge it with your own adaptor. I'd rather something very similar to the G4500S, but somethign that doesnt belch out clear plastic on a hot day lol

I have the Arkon unit as well. it has help up very nicely. The version that I use includes a speaker, which helps a lot with GPS volume on the x51v.

Thanks guys,

I might have jumped the gun a little bit, but I got to a bottle of wine and Google, and you end up spending money lol.

I purchased this unit, but it appears it is only sold in the UK. They try to pass it off as an official TomTom gear, but IMHO it would be branded everywhere, dont you think?

Anyhow, this looked little (no speaker), but I never used it on my Seidio anyhow.

VtJay22. If you are still looking for a PDA mount, and you are in Europe try Carcomm. I have had one since I bought my X50v 3 years ago and it works well, hasn't fried my PDA YET!. I have it permanently mounted, but the lead plugs into my cig lighter socket (I'm a non-smoker) and it holds my Axim solidly, easy to read / operate from the driver's position. They are still selling them, but they are much more expensive than when I bought mine, presumably because of the strong Euro / weak £.

Does the Arkon unit go OK with the extended (2800 mAh) battery?

No, the Arkon only accepts std. battery and back. I emailed tech support asking if a mod was available but they responded. I emailed over 4 months ago; not good CS but I do love the mount.

Well, with powered holder battery capacity doesn't matter that much.

Some time ago (this spring) I read a thread on a correct car charger for Axims - the one that was able to charge the PDA while it is on. As far as I remember, the problem with most of the noname chargers is that they use wrong pins to supply power (they use USB sync/charge pinout and not DC-in pinout), and they are not powerful enough to fully charge a battery.

So, do you know, by chance, if this one can charge the PDA while it is on?

I have had a Arkon mount for a couple of years. Pity the speaker packed up after a year or so.

Very good mount and it does charge whilst the Axim is switched.

I am now just using one car so I have just ordered a Brodit clip and mount which is more of a permament fixing.
